MIDWEST’S LARGEST ORGANIC FOOD AND SUSTAINABILITY FESTIVAL
LA FARGE, WI – Organic Valley Family of Farms will host the sixth-annual Kickapoo Country Fair on Saturday and Sunday, July 25-26, the Midwest’s largest organic food and sustainability festival. The event is a perfect staycation destination, an inexpensive trip that celebrates the simple things in life.

This year’s event will celebrate our connection to culture and community, and hope for a healthy and sustainable future. Featured events include farm tours and exhibits, live music and dancing, local artisans and food vendors, kids’ activities, author readings, organic cooking taught by celebrity chefs, and free workshops related to sustainability.

“Given the changes in our society brought on by the economic downturn, it’s more important than ever to share, celebrate and acknowledge all of the wonderful people and organizations working toward change for the good,” said George Siemon, one of the founding farmers and CEO for Organic Valley.

Organic Valley has lined up a number of featured guest speakers and special events at this year’s fair, including folk and rock singer/songwriter Brett Dennen, who will perform songs at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 25, from his newly released album “Hope for the Hopeless.” Dennen was named one of Rolling Stone magazine’s “10 Artists to Watch in 2008.” This year’s “Organic Heroes” keynote panel features presentations from five influential industry pioneers, including the Rodale Institute’s Tim LaSalle, Ken Cook of the Environmental Working Group, Ronnie Cummins of the Organic Consumers Association, and Theresa Marquez, Organic Valley’s chief marketing executive.

Additional special events include the third-annual Butter Churn Bike Tour, which will begin Saturday at 8 a.m.; the Word Tent, welcoming authors and performers throughout the weekend; action-packed entertainment from “acrobaticalists” Nanda; and live music from The Bryan Cherry Band and other local favorites.

The Kickapoo Country Fair is sponsored by Organic Valley Family of Farms and more than 75 local businesses and organizations, including Wisconsin Farmers Union, Kamp Kenwood, Midwest Organic and Sustainable Education Services (MOSES), Kickapoo Green Builders Guild and Kickapoo Valley Reserve.
