We have owned five dogs through the years, and I’ve always wondered if dogs get bored with kibbles. I obtained this recipe from my sister who lives in Romania. She adopted a street dog who completely refused kibbles. She was told by a vet there that older dogs only need about 20 percent of their food to be meat, and they do need vegetables.

This “real food” recipe is for older dogs who have grown so tired of kibble, they ignore their food or hardly eat it. I use the following mix:

  • 6 cups water
  • 2 cups meat (ground turkey, ground beef or frozen fish fillets, cut up)
  • 2 cups frozen vegetables
  • 1 or 2 handfuls of spinach

Heat above until meat is done. Serve two cups morning and evening, or use kibbles in the morning and the meat and veggie soup in the evening. My dog just gulps it down.
