Visionary and futurist Barbara Marx Hubbard, leader in the field of conscious evolution, slipped peacefully from this realm to the next on April 10 following knee surgery. She was 89.

“As the developmental path unfolds and our visions emerge from the mists of evolutionary consciousness,” she wrote, “we begin to see that the meaning of our new crises is to activate our new potentials, and that the purpose of our power is to foster within ourselves the emergence of a universal humanity, capable of co-evolution with nature and co-creation with spirit.”

She was the author of numerous books including Conscious Evolution: Awakening the Power of Our Social Potential, Birth 2012 & Beyond: Humanity’s Great Shift to the Age of Conscious Evolution, and Emergence: The Shift from Ego to Essence. She was the subject of a biography by author Neale Donald Walsch, The Mother of Invention: The Legacy of Barbara Marx Hubbard and the Future of “YOU.

She was president of the Foundation for Conscious Evolution and co-founder of the World Future Society and Association for Global New Thought. She also produced and hosted the acclaimed DVD series, Humanity Ascending.”

“It feels as though evolutionary consciousness itself is deepening and that the unfolding ‘Implicate order’ is arising as our own intuitive guidance as to how to navigate though the great period of transition to the next stage of human evolution,” she wrote.

She ran for vice president on the Democratic ticket in 1984 on themes given by Buckminster Fuller, Abraham Maslow and Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, calling for the establishment of a new social function in the office — “a peace room as sophisticated as our war rooms to scan for, map, connect and communicate what is working in America and the world.”

Marc Gafni, co-chair of the Foundation for Conscious Evolution and co-president ot the Center for Integral Wisdom, wrote this on her website following her passing:

“A Great Leader has passed. A Great Feminine Co-Creator — reborn again and again through what she called Regenopause, a woman who was getting newer every day and never got older– has left our world. A Great evolutionary has passed.

“A great light has gone out in the manifest universe. But I/We  promise you Barbara, all of us –  I/we will continue our Evolutionary  Partnership. Deeper than ever, with more evolutionary joy, with radical commitment, with mad love and delight.

“A great sun has set. A new sun must now rise. The torch has been passed. We must all pick it up and light the world on fire. Evolution must become revolution. The New story — “evolving the very source code of evolution”– is not only possible but urgently necessary as we stand between dystopia and utopia.”

The Edge interviewed Barbara twice: in April 1999 for “Birth of the Universal Human,” (www.edgemagazine.net/1999/04/birth-of-the-universal-human-with-barbara-marx-hubbard/) and again in November 2012 for “Birth 2012” (www.edgemagazine.net/2012/11/birth-2012/). She ended that second interview by saying, “But now there’s a new vision and a new story emerging, the story of the sacred story of evolution seen as an expression of a deep inner order or Divine process or universal intelligence or consciousness force. The sacred story of evolution, and seeing ourselves as part of that story, empowers us to co-create. So another image of the universal human is the co-creator.”
