The featured film for June is the documentary Emmanuel’s Gift, narrated by Oprah Winfrey. This beautiful and touching story is about a disabled man from Ghana, Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah. Born in a country where a handicap indicates a family curse, a life of begging in the streets was all Emmanuel had to look forward to. Knowing that he deserved a full life without limiting cultural beliefs, Emmanuel changed a nation by riding across Ghana on a bicycle, despite the fact that he had only one leg. Oprah Winfrey dedicated her TV show on September 29, 2005, to this film, noting during the show: "I think every parent should take their children to see this movie, because it will change the way your children think about what they can do and can be."
Also in June: three powerful short films, including Speechless, which is about a man with cerebral palsy. In spite of having challenged speech patterns, he gathers the courage to take a collegiate speech class with surprising results.
