What Was, What Is, and What will be: The Internet Comes of Age

The Internet started thousands of years ago with a Greek runner, a torch and a message. The Internet is all about getting the word out.

    My story
Once upon a time, three and a half years ago, a Wealth Oracle met a Modern-day Muse. Yes, that muse – Lori Palm. She was searching for the next big thing for her business and needed a Wealth Oracle. That was me. I had a dream about enlightening big business and raising the consciousness of corporate America with win-win collaboration in a virtual office environment. Lori Palm was part of my Master’s thesis, and two of my professors became clients. I was on to something. Want to hear more?

To understand my dream and the future of the Internet, you may need to see the trends as I see them.

    What was
Over the last century in the United States, life has changed at a steady pace. Individuals had jobs for life, disposable income to go shopping and could live on pensions and social security income when they retired.

i Customers walk into a store, purchase a product and take it home.
i Customers use coupons in newspapers, magazines and direct mail.
i Trucks, trains and planes create the only way to distribute products.
i Services are delivered in person during traditional business hours 9 to 5, Monday through Friday, and not on holidays.

    What is
Today, the pace is faster. Change isn’t optional. The Internet affects many aspects of everyday life. People often change residences, jobs and partners. The largest generation in the United States, the Baby Boomer generation, is moving into its second half of life. The second half of life becomes a purpose-driven life with new careers and new missions.

i Customers rather work or spend time with their families than go into a store to shop.
i Customers receive e-mail promotions with special offers and rewards that replace coupons.
i Distribution is more expensive due to the rapidly increasing price of gasoline; inspiring creative ways to distribute products.
i Customers choose vendors based on excellent service on their terms and to fit their busy life styles.

    What will be
Imagine the changes in the near future. What companies will you support with your purchasing power and referral network? Fewer people are working to fund social security with day-jobs and more are becoming entrepreneurs to live life on their own terms.

i Broadband and satellite access connects 75 percent of the world population to the Internet, with public wireless access in metropolitan areas.
i Teleseminars deliver valuable information in the convenience of your home using your phone.
i The Internet expands to distribute television content, radio content, movies and software.
i Renting applications online replaces locally installed software.
i Customers search out products and services that add streams of income to their portfolio from referral sales to their friends.
i Customers work, play and socialize on the Internet.
i High traffic locations on the Internet are the new real estate market.

    Success – what always is
Trends are easy to see when someone else points them out. The tougher part is seeing how they affect your life. Where do you fit in? Are you living in the past, the present or the near future? Do you know what to do to be successful? I have a burning desire to be successful with win-win collaboration. Do you?

Success is one of the ancient wisdoms and sacred truths – what always is.
Deepak Chopra writes in his book The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, "Every action generates a force of energy that returns to us in like kind…what we sow is what we reap. And when we choose actions that bring happiness and success to others, the fruit of our karma is happiness and success. The Law of Karma or Cause and Effect."

The near future has a huge potential for happiness and success. The Internet has many ways to deliver happiness and success to others. People that support this future trend will be more successful.

Exchanging happiness and success is a form of win-win equal energy exchange. What does this win-win look like on the Internet?

Affiliate marketing on the Internet is a type of win-win collaboration. For example, you refer a friend or an acquaintance to a business with a link in an e-mail or on a web page, and they buy. Now you have increased the happiness and success of the business and the customer, and by the way you have also received a commission. Creating this happiness and success (plus the commission) motivates you to tell more people. You can also sign up other people to do the same referral process for you.

I believe that affiliate marketing is the next tsunami wave for the Internet. Nothing will be the same. The landscape will change. It is up to us to make it a change for the better. As Deepak Chopra writes, "The only caution is that you use your intent for the benefit of mankind." The power of the people is the power of the referral network.
