"Because something is happening here
But you don’t know what it is
Do you, Mister Jones?"
– Bob Dylan, "Ballad of a Thin Man"
They come seemingly at random, those scintillas of clarity. Hour by hour, day by day, every one like the one before it, your life flips by like tear-off calendar pages, until – bam! – it happens. You could be walking down the aisle of a grocery store fingering bags of pasta, or leaving fingerprints on frozen pints of ice cream. And suddenly it all makes sense. You now understand.
Perhaps it was something your grandmother told you when you were little, about the need to take your time and not be in so much of a hurry, because you are never too busy to stop and smell the roses. You buried this nugget away in the back of your mind, never expecting it to resurface, but it has, now, at the exact time when stopping to smell the roses is the exact thing you need to do in your life to remain sane.
Perhaps you suddenly understand something about a close friend that you’ve never thought of before, something that explains everything, the way she is, the way you are in reaction to her. It all makes sense now.
Like déjà vu, you instantly recognize the fact that something has happened, but you don’t know what it is. Words to explain it are not in your vocabulary. All that can be said was that it was a transcendent opening into the collective.
The very fact that it happened at all says volumes about the likelihood – as the beings of energy that we are – that our spirit swims in this vast ocean of Truth. Our conscious, waking mind seems not to be privy to this incredible fact, and few people that we meet in our daily lives are shouting it out from the rooftops like a clarion call to the evolution of humanity.
It gets really interesting when you begin to explore the reality of synchronicity – of coincidence, of chance meetings of friends long estranged, of the recurrence of symbols, words and events that seem to suggest an underlying pattern in your life. At some point, you have to ask yourself: Just how random are these experiences anyway, when each one sends chills of familiarity and echoes of connection with something very close, and yet so far away?
These things are becoming more clear to me:
i A universal energy source connects all of us to each other.
i Each of us is a distinct, individual part of a collective that shares all wisdom and knowledge from the past, present and future.
i Each of us has direct access to that universal spirit that connects us to each other, and that access is not a function of social class, ethnicity or genetics. It is a privilege of being a human being.
i Meditation is the tool that allows us to swim in that ocean of Truth.
i There are many forms of meditation and ways to connect with that universal energy.
i The more we are aligned with universal laws, the more we will experience balance and flow in our lives.
i As distinct, individuals, we are multi-layeredbeings of energy – physically, spiritually, etherically – and each layer of energy is innately interconnected to the others.
i True healing recognizes our multidimensionality.
i The reality of our lives – what happens to us, what we experience, what we plan for, what we sense, what we do – is created by us at a level that surpasses our conscious understanding.
i The experiences created by human beings at their highest level are intricately woven like a web, each of us intersecting and informing the lives of each other, one of the most incredible puzzles of the universe.
i As human souls bonded to physical bodies, we are all saved. We do not have to worship in a Christian church, a Hindu temple or a Moslem mosque to secure eternal salvation.
Why am I sharing all of this? Because it’s what I am thinking about at this moment. And these thoughts will be used like building blocks to create each moment of the rest of my life. I encourage you to actively consider what you believe and what you will be using to create your next moment.
