A search for happiness is the pursuit of God. Yet the reason so many people fail to find happiness is because they look for it in the wrong place – at the market instead of in their hearts.
If they’d only look for freedom first – maybe meditate like the Buddhists or contemplate in Eckankar, which is a lighter form of meditation.
Prayer. Meditation. Contemplation. What’s at the heart of these spiritual practices? Each is a response to the call of Soul. Each represents an individual’s desire to contact the source of all truth. Different paths to reach the same goal.
You are Soul, a divine spark of God on a journey homeward. Soul wants to experience more of the Voice of God, which can be heard as Sound or seen as Light.
In your dreams, meditations, or contemplations, you may have seen a light: white, yellow, green, blue or pink. It can be any color, any shape. It may look like a chandelier. It may look like a spotlight. It may look like a candle or a globe. This is one of the manifestations of the Holy Spirit. Most people don’t know what it is, but it’s special.
When you see the Light of God, you come out of the experience with a good feeling. You know that the hand of God was near you. And indeed it was, because the Voice of God has brought the gift of God’s love to you.
The second way that the Holy Spirit communicates with people is through the Sound. Again, the Sound of God can be any number of different sounds.
Sounds of Holy Spirit
In contemplation or meditation, you may hear a high humming sound. It may be a sound like bees swarming around their hive. It can be the sound of running water. It can be the sound of a flute. It can be the sound of a whistle. It can be the sound of distant bells. Or the sound of the ocean or singing birds.
These are all sounds of the Holy Spirit coming through at a particular level, coming to you at your state of consciousness at that time. This uplifts you spiritually. If at any time in your life you’ve experienced these two aspects of the Holy Spirit, it’s a way that God’s love was coming through to you.
And when this divine love comes into you, it will change you. It changes your state of consciousness. Degree by degree, it makes you a new person.
Learn to go inside yourself, because this is the source of all truth. There are a lot of holy temples out here, but the most sacred of all is the temple inside you, because this is where you meet with the Holy Spirit, the voice of God.
How do you meet with the Holy Spirit? If you’re in Christianity, you pray. You come to the holy temple, to the holy of holies, through prayer. You meet on holy ground with your God. If you’re a member of any other religion, you have a means of going to that holy of holies, whether it’s meditation or contemplation or prayer.
Go to the holy of holies. It’s the temple inside you. This is the place where all truth comes from. Before there were words, before there was a written Bible or a printed Gutenberg Bible, before there was Luther’s translation, there was the Word in the heart of mankind. This is the temple. Go there.
A simple contemplation
Try this simple contemplation to help you hear and see the two aspects of God, the Light and Sound.
Go somewhere quiet. Sit or lie down in a comfortable place. Put your attention on your Spiritual Eye, a point just above and behind your eyebrows. With eyes lightly shut, begin to sing a holy word or phrase, such as Hu, God, Holy Spirit, or Show me thy ways, O Lord. But fill your heart with love before you approach the altar of God, because only the pure may come.
Be patient. Do this exercise daily for several weeks, for a limit of 20 minutes each time. Sit, sing, and wait. God speaks only when you are able to listen.
