I have noticed that in the past few years, there are more personal growth and spiritual events and conferences popping up all over the country. With our current technology, why not just stay home and do a conference call, or listen to the internet radio shows or take an online course? I have had both experiences and certainly know that it is easier to stay in my comfortable pajamas and just cuddle up next to my computer and listen to one of the great teachers present an online course. But am I sacrificing a real life experience for convenience? I will let the people speak for themselves and then share my thoughts at the end.
I went to a Celebrate Your Life conference, which is organized by Mishka Productions, a company that started about 14 years ago by Ariel Wolfe and her daughters Liz Dawn and Jaime Babs. This family of women pull together a four-day conference with some very high-profile authors. I don’t know how they do it, but they manage to create an atmosphere where, even in a room filled with more than 1,000 attendees, you feel like a member of the family. They organize the Celebrate Your Life conference twice a year, in Chicago and in Phoenix. At the Phoenix conference, some of the speakers included Dr. Wayne Dyer, Neale Donald Walsch, James Van Praagh, Cheryl Richardson, Dr. Brian Weiss, and the list goes on.
I spoke with a few of the attendees. Mary, who flew in from Massachusetts to attend, said, “This is my third Celebrate Your Life conference. If I sat at home on my computer doing internet classes and not getting my energy moving and having an up close and personal experience, that is exactly where I would be. At home! The impact of this event is meeting all the authors in person and the joyous feeling that is created in being with so many like-minded people!â€
“Celebrate Your Life is an amazing experience!†said Susan from Salt Lake City, Utah. “All these fabulous authors in one place at one time. Something like this cannot be conveyed through a phone line, reading a book, on my computer screen or even listening to a lecture on my iPod. This is a direct, real-life event that must be done in person.â€
James of Phoenix has attended the conference before. “I only live a few miles away, however I met a couple who flew in from Russia. I thought that was incredible! Celebrate Your Life has a strong impact on so many people’s lives, including me. Stay at home? I don’t think so!â€
All the attendees I spoke with had similar experiences. There is a palpable sense of community and joy at this event – one that cannot be experienced with an online course or conference call. Perhaps between my visits to the Celebrate Your Life conferences, I will use the online resources for support, but it will never take the place of getting out of my house and traveling to this event.
The next Celebrate Your Life conference will be the weekend of June 5-7 in Chicago. Some of the featured speakers include Dr. Christiane Northrup, Caroline Myss, James Van Praagh, Cheryl Richardson, Michael Bernard Beckwith, Sonia Choquett, and many more. The early registration fee offers a substantial discount from the regular pricing. For details, visit www.CelebrateYourLife.org or call toll-free 1.877.300.7352.
