Not many years ago, I felt lost, confused and had no idea who I really was. I had gone to college, graduated with honors and had a “big girl” job. On the outside, I looked successful and happy, but on the inside I was looking for more.
Most of my life, I have had a lack of self-identity. Who am I? What is my purpose? I had absolutely no idea. I searched for any kind of definition or label I could use to define myself. Sure, I could define myself in superficial terms, but I was searching for truth. I turned to others and craved for their acceptance, because with that I had something. I had their words and their relationship to use to help define me. I would hold tightly to their definition of myself because I thought it would help, but it didn’t. I still felt lost and empty.
I’m not sure exactly how it happened. I can’t pinpoint the exact turning point, but I know I came to a point where I wanted and needed something more. I wanted to be happy, joyful and free. I wanted to know who I was in absolute truth. I began searching for answers and guidance to this ever-pressing question. I read countless books, took numerous workshops and I even sought-out a psychologist, but none of these resources brought me to where I yearned to be. I had tried so many options that I began to feel even more lost. Will I ever find what I’m looking for?
The answer came to me in the place that I least expected it. I gave so much energy and validation to outside sources that I never looked within. The moment I began turning inward and listening to my inner voice, I found all the answers I was looking for. The true answers were found in my heart and in my soul.
From that moment on, my soul has been the guiding force of my life.
