The Midwest Arts in Healthcare Network (MAIHN) is hosting a month-long “Arts and Health Community Celebration” in April, and events will take place throughout the month in the Twin Cities that combine arts and healing towards the goal of lifting the human spirit and inspiring optimal health. More than 50 exhibits, workshops, concerts and experiences are scheduled throughout the Cities. Visit www.maihn.org/Events.
In addition, the international conference of the Society for the Arts in Healthcare – a national non-profit dedicated to advancing the arts as integral to health care – will take place April 28 to May 1 at the Hilton Minneapolis [see www.thesah.org]. A principal host of this event is the University of Minnesota, which is a national leader in both health care research and the arts. It is home to the Center for Art and Medicine, the Center for Spirituality and Healing, the Music Therapy Program, the Institute for Advanced Study, the Center for Design in Health, the Health Sciences Orchestra and the arts program at Boynton Health Service.

(See detail from one of her pieces of art, above). Her events are:
- April 17 – The Art of Centering in Turbulent Times – Through earthquakes, pain and a culture of violence, we need to find the resiliency within ourselves to heal and find balance in our lives. Art gives us the tools for self-expression, healing, transitioning, coping with loss and moving on. Together we will use labyrinths, focusing tools, mandala work and bridges to clear a way back to self; balancing heart and soul and defining health and wellness as a path towards finding center. This event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $65 for non-members of Edina Art Center ($59 members) and a $5 materials fee.
- April 18 – Journey into the Imagination; Movement and Art as Self-care – Take time for art and self-care; nurture your imagination in this workshop. Witness the creative process unfolding as you find inspiration through specific tools for accessing more of the authentic self. Your art may journey into new parts of self…awaiting expression. This event will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $65 for non-members of Edina Art Center ($59 members) and a $5 materials fee.
