Lake Harriet Spiritual Community will observe the Summer Solstice – honoring the divine masculine, and celebrating the sun at its zenith – with “Baptism of Fire” at 8 p.m. Friday, June 18, followed by the “Rhythm of Love” drum circle.
“On this longest day of the year,” Lake Harriet reports, “with the sun at the apex, it floods the earth with light and heat and energy. This generative power animates the fertile earth. Everything grows and flourishes. It is the peak of the growing season. This is the embodiment of the divine masculine, the active yang energy. So we choose this season to honor the God and to connect with our own vitality.
“In the tradition of the ancients, we will observe mid-summer’s eve with fire! Each person who attends will experience a baptism by fire, to infuse them with energy to grow their new year’s resolutions.”
Providing the ambiance for the evening will be the new Twin Cities women’s chorus Contara, making their debut performance, singing a mix of pagan chants and hymns to the Gods. Contara is conducted by professional vocalist Emily Gergen Bar of Wookiefoot and Mad Love fame.
Following the ritual, plunge into the flow by joining the “Rhythm of Love” drum circle. Drum and dance to the beat of your own rhythm and add your positive vibes to the collective vibration and the rhythm of Mother Earth. The drum circle will begin around 9 p.m. and will last until midnight. Bring your percussion and other instruments, and join in. Beginners welcome!
Attendance for the entire event is $10. Children 12 and under are free when accompanied by paying adult.
