A Day of Healing: For Those in Economic Crisis

The clock on the night stand glows 3:00 a.m. in bright red. Thoughts drift to the lack of food in the cupboard, the lack of funds in the wallet, or the lack of prospects in the job market. After tossing and turning, he rises from the bed and walks into the kitchen to get a drink of water, walking past the stack of bills on the table and the answering machine flashing the reminder that the bill collectors do not give up. Emotional upset affects the physical health and worry becomes illness just when it can least be afforded. Where can he go for direction, healing, and hope?

On the anniversary of the tragedy that started the downward spiral in our economy, the Twin Cities holistic community is reaching out to those who have suffered the most by providing a free Day of Healing to assist people to find their direction, heal emotionally and physically, and take action steps toward financial and emotional security.

“A Day of Healing” will be presented from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at Lake Harriet Spiritual Community in South Minneapolis for people who are currently among the 7 percent of Minnesotans who are out of work, losing (or have lost) their home and watching the last of their funds disappear.

This event started when Tim Miejan, editor and publisher of the Edge: Soul of the Cities, walked by an empty house that had been alive with a family just the week before and was inspired to write a column asking how the holistic community could pay it forward to help those in need. Miejan reported that many called asking whether he was planning an event, but the call from psychic medium Debra Battenfeld, offering to organize the event, and the donation of space from the Lake Harriet Spiritual Community, assured him that the event would come to fruition.

A number of area professional psychics, healers and other professionals have volunteered to pay it forward and will be donating their services at this event. They will be offering free bodywork and energy healing, as well as intuitive readings directed toward helping people find their direction out of crisis. People may also bring their resumes to have them reviewed and classes will be offered on a variety of topics selected to help the unemployed and those who are in crisis.

“A Day of Healing” will be presented at Lake Harriet Spiritual Community, 4401 Upton Ave. S., in Minneapolis, MN. For more information, contact Debra Battenfeld at 612.805.3402, Connye LaCombe at 651.334.8151 or Tim Miejan at 651.578.8969. This is a Pay it Forward event: If you have skills to help others, call to take part. If you know of anyone who can benefit from this event, please let them know or provide them transportation.

  1. What a beautiful offering from the community! I am so inspired by all of you who are doing this. We really have to come together and help each other during this time of need for so many. My grandparents said that during the Great Depression, people really came together to help each other, and even though there wasn’t a lot of money around, people who still had land let others camp out and stay there, everyone grew food in gardens together, it worked. People also turned to spirituality more than ever during the Great Depression, too.

Well, I just want to thank you all for being so beautiful and helping each other. I wish I was in the area as I would contribute as well, but maybe we could do something like that here in California where I live, I’m going to look into it and start trying to see if we can line up a donated location where we could do this. We have many healers here as well who would step forward for such a thing. Maybe this could happen all over the world! What a wonderful example you are providing for others to follow. Thank you Edge Magazine and Harriet Lake Spiritual Community, and everyone else involved.
