Eye of Horus, a leading metaphysical store serving the Twin Cities, will move to an expanded site in late October, but the many fans of the business will only have to travel three blocks south to find the new location. The store, which features metaphysical books and items, original art, intuitive readers and healing, and classes and special events, has served the Cities at its current location at 2717 Lyndale Ave. S. since 2003.
Upon learning that their landlord intended to sell the Eye of Horus building and surrounding properties, co-owner Jane Hansen synchronistically spotted a “for lease” sign on what would become the store’s new building in the heart of the Lyn-Lake neighborhood, just south of Lake Street at 3012 Lyndale Ave. S.
The move will take place this month in anticipation of a grand opening on October 31, which coincides with the seventh anniversary of Eye of Horus.
Hansen says the move is well-timed because the growth of the business requires more physical space. “It’s been tough, because we’ve been growing a lot, and it gets pretty darn crowded in this little house.”
The new location not only will allow for more classes and more participants, but it will be on the ground floor as opposed to an upstairs room, making it easier for people to take advantage of the new sessions. A walking labyrinth will be placed on the floor of the classroom space.
In addition, the store’s metaphysical art gallery, which had been available only to those who climbed the steps in the current location, will be moved to the walls of the store’s main showroom. Original art on display is from three local visionary artists – Paul Rucker, Meredith Dillman and Beth Hansen-Buth – and prints are available from other local artists whose work relates to spirituality, myth, and faeries.
Hansen said the new Eye of Horus will vibrate with good intentions. Indoor plants, wind chimes and fountains not only will create good feng shui for the expanded business, but they will demonstrate ways that the store can help its clients create similar harmonies in their own sacred space.
“What we hope is that when people walk in,” she said, “they will be entering a different kind of space – a space that is dedicated to expanding their horizons, a threshold to expanding consciousness. We want people to feel comfortable, open and connected. …A big part of what we do is help people create their own sacred spaces, so we want our store to feel that way, too.
“We are really excited. We think people have a growing understanding of the interconnectedness of everything, and we just love being part of that, and being part of those connections.”
