universal poet

castro-wide
be a low flying star on celestial watch
with silver-tipped wings in the shallows
of your aware self.

be two hands like small furnaces aligning,
handling blank sheets of paper, honoring a
forgotten trade,

smoothing out wisps of smoke, tempering
the width of each word.

be the rainwater collected in the center
of every flower during a drought.
be the message of the wall’s loud desire
to offer sanctuary without a home.

be the passion of a resistant mind learning.
be in a higher place with expansive wings
smoothing out the wind.

be an intentional presence in a book of noise.

be the love we were never meant to keep.
be a moment of peace for someone in need.
