Authenticity Tips: How to be our Real Selves all the Time

Authenticity originates from the inside and emanates outward. I find it essential to connect with Divinity, higher self — whatever the terminology — and feel gratitude, set intentions, get firmly seated in my own power core before even getting out of bed in the morning. Then, I am prepared for the day, firmly seated as my own authentic self prior to any interactions.

The following are some straightforward tips I use to maintain my authenticity and take it deeper.

  • Converse from a core of truth. Learn the communication skills it takes to convey what you see, feel, think, what your expectations are, and where your boundaries are. Say no when necessary — and mean it. Provide specific instructions for the pathway to yes when desired.
  • Be silent and actively listen. You don’t have to express everything on your mind — it’s okay to have unspoken thoughts. Listening, silently with mental and emotional stillness, is the other half of the communication dynamic. If the other person is not on the same page, hear that, and if neither of you cannot adjust, then move on. With so many prevalent politically charged dynamics going on right now, emotions are heightened, yet communication skills don’t necessarily match that heightened interest in conveying thoughts. Sometimes the most loving, authentic thing to do is let go, in order to preserve peace of mind.
  • Literally change your mind. Turn thoughts to something else when sliding down the slippery slope of old, conditioned patterns. Sometimes that’s easier said than done! For me, it helps to have a specific affirmation or visualization at the ready during times of challenge.
  • On a deeper level, for those in alignment with the paradigm of karma, release completed karmic connections. Cut the cords of huge entanglements stuck at the soul level. Each individual has had different experiences between now and the lifetime when you were connected with someone else. Once the leftover dynamic is addressed, the best way you can address it, it’s fine for you to move on, even when the other person is on the same page. Your lesson is done, even though it often doesn’t have a “normal” feeling of closure. It’s not Tupperware — doesn’t need to be snapped shut and burped. As long as you’ve done what you can do, move on or else you’ll waste your time and other resources pouring your energy into a quicksand-filled black hole of futility that pulls you out of your authenticity. Do you in order to be true.
  • Enlist the support of a trusted, professional energy worker who knows not only how to cut, but also how to lovingly loosen, gently unravel, remove and release energy cords, as the tendrils from a deep karmic connection and repeated past-life connections extend in all directions into multiple layers of energy patterns. Sweep the foundation of your energetic blueprint clean, walk off that karmic wheel and find new freedom.
  • Depth of freedom requires deep forgiveness in order to move on to welcome deeper authenticity. Reminder: Forgiveness does not mean allowing an abuser re-entry, but rather to set a solid boundary and move on, for the sake of your own well-being. “I never knew how strong I was until I had to forgive someone who wasn’t sorry, and accept an apology I never received.” Easier said than done, but even so, I’ve found an effective technique: Write that apology yourself, as though it were written to you, from the offending individual. Bless the communication and either tear it up and discard or delete it. Release thoughts of the connection and the offensive behaviors. Literally change your mind to a different thought if it arises, as mentioned above.
  • Most importantly, incorporate compassionate detachment as we raise and teach our children, so that they learn to practice it, and we are instilling the world with long-term, impactful deeper authenticity.
