The human body is a latticework of energies vibrating at different frequencies, which encompass the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects. It has been perfectly created to function optimally, providing we observe the laws of nature.
Clairvoyance, clairaudience and clairsentience are innate spiritual abilities that most of us have lost touch with, due to our lifestyles becoming so far removed from nature. Empowering our spiritual energies with ancient Indian self-healing practices can assist us in reawakening our innate abilities, to enhance our intuition and connection with the entire universe.
Self-healing practices include Yoga asanas, mudras and chanting.
Yoga Asanas
The regular practice of yoga asanas, or yoga poses, instills a calming and balancing effect on our endocrine and nervous system, to relieve stress and anxiety. It is believed that as our physical body becomes more relaxed, flexible and open, this promotes a similar effect on our emotional and spiritual body to awaken our latent energies.
- -Stand with your feet hip width apart.
- Lengthen and stretch your spine upwards.
- Exhale and bend forward from your lower back.
- Bend your knees slightly and place your hands under your feet.
- Allow your entire palms to be in contact with your soles.
- Loosen your neck and shoulders and straighten your legs.
- Slowly allow your forehead to touch the front of your legs.
- Bring your awareness to your breathing.
- Relax in the posture for up to five minutes.. Practice two times a day.
- Lie on your back with your knees bent and your heels at your buttocks.
- Place your hands on the floor, at the sides of your head, with your fingers pointing towards your feet.
- Keep your hands and feet pushed firmly against the floor, and lift your body to form an arch shape.
- Straighten your arms and deeply stretch your body upwards.
- Bring your awareness to your breathing.
- Relax in the posture for up to five minutes. Practice two times a day.
Mudras
The regular practice of mudras (hand gestures) allows the elements of the body to regain equilibrium and encourages the body’s natural healing response. Traditionally, mudras were practiced to attain higher states of consciousness and channel the vital flow of energy to an area of the body that requires healing.
- Sit comfortably in a cross-legged position.
- Place the tips of your middle fingers together.
- Place the tips of your thumbs together.
- Place the middle joints of your index fingers together.
- Bend your ring and little fingers inwards.
- Point your thumbs towards your chest.
- Stretch your elbows outwards.
- Bring your awareness to your third eye chakra, located between your eyes.
- Relax your body and breathe slowly and deeply. Practice two times a day for thirty minutes in total.
- Sit comfortably in a cross-legged position.
- Place the tips of your thumbs and the tips of your ring fingers together.
- Relax and extend your index, middle, and little fingers.
- Bring your awareness to your root chakra located at the base of your spine.
- Relax your body and breathe slowly and deeply.
- Practice two times a day for forty minutes in total.
Chanting
Chanting is the practice of repeating a word or sound for a short period of time, to detach from the external world, bring our awareness to the present moment and return to the essence of our being. Chanting starts loudly gradually becomes quieter and ends almost silently. This resonates with the energies of the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of the body. Traditionally chanting was practiced with great devotion to reconnect with the divine light and love within us to experience the unity of life.
The Om Chanting Exercise is believed to awaken our latent intuitive powers. Here are the directions for this chant:
- Sit comfortably with your legs crossed.
- Close your eyes and inhale deeply through your nose.
- Retain your breath for a few seconds.
- As you exhale through your mouth, chant the sound ‘Om’ in one long note (one chant during a continuous exhalation can take up to thirty seconds, depending on your lung capacity).
- Start the sound loudly as an ‘aahh’ at your solar plexus.
- Continue the sound as an ‘auhh’ at your chest, allowing it to become quieter.
- Round your mouth and end the sound as an ‘mmmm’ allowing it to become gentle and quiet as you close your lips.
- Repeat eleven times.
- Observe the stillness within your body and the tranquillity within your mind.
