When you hear the word healing, what do you think of? Do you think of your body’s ability to mend a cut or broken bone? Do you imagine someone doing Reiki or giving a massage? Maybe you think of a doctor performing a surgery or giving medicine to the sick. Well, for me, healing is connecting with your true Self.
In my work as a healer and chiropractor, I have witnessed many instances of incredible healing; healing that was unexpected and sometimes unexplainable. It has happened enough that I have come to expect the unexpected. Healing is not miraculous; it’s just the way things work.
You were born with the power to heal. It’s a gift from the Creator; a part of who you are. Because of this, you can heal. Access the power of your own soul or true Self, and you can overcome anything.
During the many years I have been in practice, I have used just about every therapy you can think of — short of drugs and surgery. I have given my patients diets and nutritional supplements of all kinds. I’ve used flower essences, essential oils, and homeopathy. I have adjusted just about every bone in the human body. I’ve done work on ligaments, tendons, fasciae and muscle. I’ve pushed on trigger points and acupuncture points. Detoxification, fasting, juicing — you name it, I’ve done it.
But something has gradually become so clear it’s undeniable. It’s not what I do. It’s who you are on the inside that matters most. Healing is inside out, not outside in. I help. You heal.
Spirituality is the best medicine there is. Unfortunately, it is grossly underutilized and all too often completely neglected. Many care providers are focused more on what they can do to you than how they can help you be your own healer. And, the truth is, no one can make you heal. You must do it for yourself.
You are a spiritual being. Place your focus there. When you allow the strength and innate wisdom of your own soul to lead the way, health and well-being is a natural outcome.
You might be thinking: “How do I do this?” Well, I’ll tell you a little secret. Spirituality isn’t an intellectual pursuit. Thinking about it won’t make it happen. To connect with your soul’s power to heal, you must move beyond thinking about it so you can live it.
It’s a little bit like riding a bicycle. Remember when you were a kid and wanted to ride a bike? I’m sure you thought about it a lot. But when you got on that bike, you fell right off. That’s what happened to me. I finally started riding a bike when I thought my dad was holding me up. I didn’t know he let go. I relaxed, stopped thinking so hard, and just let it happen. Like magic, I could ride. Healing is the same.
Here are three tips to help you move out of your head and into your heart and soul where your power to heal comes from:
- Breathe deeply. Sit comfortably and close your eyes. Breathe deeply, slowly and rhythmically. Focus on your breathing, as if it is the only thing in the world that matters. Notice how peaceful you become. That peace comes from your true Self.
- Meditate on a candle. Light a candle and do the deep breathing exercise. This time, keep your eyes open and stare at the candle light. That light is the most amazing thing you’ve ever seen. Pretend you are the light. Notice how calm and content you become. That is the real you.
- Visualize. Sit and breathe deeply until you’re calm and relaxed. When you’re ready, imagine you are a beautiful spiritual being of Divine light. Now, imagine how your body will look and feel when it is a physical representation of your beautiful spirit. You are bringing the power of your own soul to life inside your body.
You live in a physical, human body, but that body isn’t who or what you are. You’re far more than the body you live in. You are the inside. You are the inner spiritual entity that was created by the Divine. You are powerful.
What you think of as your spirit is who you are. That soul of yours is your true Self. It is the essence of life and the joy of unconditional love. It is the life-force that animates your body and makes it alive. When you allow your true Self to fill your body with its life-giving energy, your body responds with health and vitality. This is why I say: “Be Your Self and Be Well!”
Creating health and well-being isn’t complicated. It’s easy. I’ll give you a simple formula for creating optimal health.
Focus most of your time and energy on the fulfillment of your soul. Pray. Meditate. Practice deep breathing and inner listening. Make it a daily practice.
Then, love and nourish your body. Eat only the best food. No junk. Exercise regularly and make it fun. Laugh often, especially with those you love. Breathe deeply and drink water throughout the day. Sleep so that you feel rested and alert when you wake up.
You can heal because you are a beautiful spiritual being created in the image of the Divine. Healing is connecting with your true Self.
