Unplugged

Balance in life is important to get through all moments in life, whether happy or sad. It is something we take for granted when we have it, but feel so out of sorts when we lose it. There are lots of ways to stay in balance, with some being better than others.

My favorite way is to leave the world behind and go unplugged into nature. No matter how my day or week unfolded, nature has a way of putting all the pieces together in ways that make sense. It reminds me what is important: life. Everywhere you look in nature, it shows you how it balances its own ecosystem. Every species and organism helps another to survive and thrive. We can learn a lot from nature. It gives and it takes, as should we. Too much of either puts us out of balance. We need to be grateful when we receive help and, in turn, help others.

While I walk through life, Thou art with me all the days of my life, and I with you my Lord. I see Your face in the ripples of the waves, I hear Your voice in the whisper of the wind, I taste Your sweetness in the wild rose hips that grow along Your ocean paradise You so graciously invite me into.

We get so caught up in what we have to do in life that we forget it is important to recharge ourselves — not just our cell phones, computers and laptops. Nature’s negative ions recharge my soul and fill it with life-affirming energy. The symphony begins as I step out into nature with the waves crashing, the birds singing and the squirrels chattering.

While the eagle sits and watches us meander along the shore, we are blessed with one of God’s greatest gifts to humanity that needs no changing, no charging, no inference: Nature, as it is, as it was, as it will be. Welcoming, warm and wondrous. I am in awe each visit. My heart is overfilled with His greatness and I return to the world in balance, ready for another day. Amen.
