Mercurial Messages through the Zodiac
Throughout all of 2020, the planets ask us to remember that our spiritual life and our relationships are embedded in the body politic, and the body politic needs our help. We can feel pulled between the personal and the political as the month begins, with both the sun and Mercury retrograde in deep-feeling Cancer sending us back to review both our personal history and that of our country to understand the roots of discomfort and take healing to a deeper level.
Tempers stay feisty for the next six months as action-oriented Mars in feisty Aries turns up the heat under all we do. This heat can motivate us, but also spark explosions wherever we feel stuck. A lunar eclipse on July 4 underlines this spark and asks us to clear space and redefine what we celebrate. We may need to let go of a friend, place or assumption in order to take a fresh road forward.
Mercury turns direct July 12 and asks us to write the future in the face of a new understanding of the past. Engage creativity to look for healthy solutions to conflicting needs July 14-20 as the sun opposes Jupiter, Pluto and Saturn. Enjoy that creative approach throughout the community after the sun enters Leo July 22.
Aries (Mar. 21-Apr. 19)…You can lead or you can react — decide what to fight for, not against. Nest, take care of the home front, research your next step, but prioritize slow, safe, and thoughtfully until July 12. Now, focus on the future and implement. Set a clear, kind boundary July 27.
Taurus (Apr. 20-May 20)…Old friends, old loves and old passions all need your attention, but don’t reengage on the old terms even if ancient scars get tweaked. Stay here and now. Engage the creative process July 26-28; it may be hard to see clearly what’s going on, but imagination flows.
Gemini (May 21-June 20)…Your community may be having a difficult month, and you want to fix the problem. You cannot. But you can love them, keep the conversation going, and support people while they transform. Listen more than talk until after July 12; look for a shift in gears July 22.
Cancer (June 21-July 22)…Be clear what you want professionally, step forward with your good ideas and with patience, and show how your ideas can help. Challenge authority thoughtfully. Engage helpfully through a rolling agenda mid-month, then step back and take care of your relationship with beloveds after July 22.
Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)…The energy supports you as the month begins, then winds pick up. Watch for wild cards between the eclipse and July 20. Step into your element as the sun enters Leo July 22, but practice patience; you may want to leap just when you need to walk steadily.
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)…Warm up your social life, and reconnect with old friends and work projects early in July. Take July 12-20 as a spiritual retreat; events may feel mythical. Enjoy a change, joke or new perspective around July 23. Stay safe July 27, then re-engage spirit and beauty.
Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)…Your beloveds and advisors may act out and need patience in early July. It’s not about you, so don’t take it personally. Believe in them and ask good questions. Communication gets easier after July 12; take time to work through issues mid-month, then feed the soul and nurture love.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)…Go gently, forgive yourself first, then it’s easier to forgive others; otherwise it can be easy to armor up and sound more aggressive than you mean. Find a safe place to be of service for an animal or person who needs you, a cause that needs your voice.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)…Watch that your signals aren’t crossed at the beginning of the month; be painfully clear. Be there for people who need you mid-month; let your inner hero shine. Reach out and invest in new friendships, romance, new connections and work contacts from July 22 on.
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan.19)…Your restlessness may make you itchy about domestic situations, so make that garden bigger, clear a closet. Think about where you want to move, whether you’re moving philosophically, in your personal identity or in your house. Finish a chunk of karmic work before winter; a new chapter beckons.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)…You’re called to grow in your maturity and wisdom in the next few years. You have already been given a taste of the work to come, but as Saturn backs out of Aquarius for a few months, it is time to review and complete old chapters. Take a deep breath, but don’t be turned backwards.
Pisces (Feb. 19-Mar. 20)…Through mid-July watch impulsive buys, sudden movements or minor accidents because you’re in a rush; easy, strong and steady does it.
