Tarot from Conscience (or the Traveling Moth)

A space for tarot reflection for the day, week, or moment it comes across your screen. Each of these is reworked intentionally for The Edge, from the egregore of GroupTarot’s Card of the Week, to center education, diversity, and intuition.

Shanah Tovah to all who observe! I do not have any specifically Jewish inspired decks to pull from this week, although they do exist!

Tarot has a deep kinship with the Kabbalah through its newer roots in the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, and consequently ties to Judaism. When I was first learning, Matthew Ellenwood gave me a marvelous little cheat sheet aligning different Hebrew letters with the Major Arcana. I wonder if I still have it…

The idea of searching through two different filing cabinets to find that paper reeks of a looooong tangent, so I’m going to stay focused! If you’re really curious, let me know in the comments and I’ll search at a better time.

I’ve chosen Modern Witch Tarot by Lisa Sterle today.
Ha! … the inspirational welcome card!

While I was shuffling, I was thinking to myself, “this deck is really thick!”

Seems like there may have been a few extra informational and inspirational cards in the mix.

I contemplated reshuffling and pulling another card, but honestly, this one flew out and just feels fully damn right.

You are a badass being.

You are full of life, love and possibilities.

Whether it’s through this deck, or any of the other infinite amount of tools out there, you will find – and are finding – a path to your best self.

We will find a path to our best selves. Maybe even test out multiple paths. The Kabbalistic Tree of Life has lots of pathways to explore.

What’s equally brilliant and synchronous, is that originally this card was pulled for the switch from 2020 to 2021, and here it is returning for the shift from 5781 to 5782! Completely unplanned! By the gods I love this work.

Shanah Tovah.

If you’re reading this, you survived. Unlike over four million people worldwide who have died of Covid, not to mention all the other things folx die of. Or the over a dozen personal friends and colleagues I lost since the pandemic began. At the first draft, the death count was just over one million. What a sobering, huge number change over not even 12 months.

And we’re still here. Badass beings.

Gods…. what’s the Sondheim song that’s teasing my brain… something something…’and I’m here’…

[internet search break]

“I’m Still Here” from Follies!

Searching for this title, I found this gem on Youtube.

“I think making it is being happy.” Carol Burnett
“I got through all of last year, and I’m here.” Stephen Sondheim

Feels an apt way to raise the curtain on 5782.

To purchase this deck – Lisa has some third party links on her website, but I always recommend contacting your local brick & mortar first.

Further recommended reading – Modern Magick by Donald Michael Kraig. This is an excellent book on Ceremonial Magick which has ties to the Kabbalah. Have excellent resources on Judaism or Kabbalah? Please share in the comments!
