Tarot from Conscience (or the Traveling Moth)

A space for tarot reflection for the day, week, or moment it comes across your screen. Each of these is reworked intentionally for The Edge, from the egregore of GroupTarot’s Card of the Week, to center education, diversity, and intuition.

Happy Third Day of Hanukkah for all who celebrate and final day of November!

If weeks were years, this column could officially drink today! Maybe a nice kosher Syrah…

My association with this Festival of Lights is full of snowy wintery scenes… what must it be like for our friends in the Southern Hemisphere for whom it is warm and light already?

Today’s card comes from Nature Spirit Tarot by Jean Marie Herzel and was a gift from The Edge Magazine. Thank you! I’m loving the shift to all different animals, plants, and crystals for every card. I’ll do a deeper dive into the deck on my YouTube channel. Subscribe to know when it’s up!

We are given,

Take time to celebrate your accomplishments and achievements, even if it’s not the final product yet. That’s ok, you’ve completed a lot of steps in the journey and that is reason to celebrate. It’s also an excellent reminder to remember all who have gone before you on this journey, the shoulders on whom you stand, the lands from which you come, which shaped and supported you.

This card has both a coming and going energy. There is a reminder to bring all of yourself places, to be a student and learn from your travels, share your personal experiences respectfully, citing your teachers and sources. When you learn things from new places, whether that’s in traditional school settings or not, when you bring that learning back to your communities, do so with respect. This is not a card for cultural appropriation! It is a card for respectful learning, energized sharing of your experiences when appropriate and traveling intentionally. It’s a card to remember who you are and carry your values with you everywhere you go, to keep that spine strong and supple when/if you’re surrounded by different values and cultures while still respecting theirs.

The natural world depicted on this card are a Garden Tiger Moth, Mountain Laurel and Wilson’s Magnolia. There is an invitation to fly on our own wings, in our own directions with joy and clarity. I am particularly tickled by this, as my home on the road is Conscience or the Traveling Moth.

Laurels are symbols of victory and this particular magnolia is not from the American South, as I initially thought. It is native to China and highly difficult to cultivate. It’s habitat’s are becoming rare and threatened, although I have yet to research what types of environmental degradation are most threatening. Do you know? Please share in the comments! Perseverance and benevolence are qualities of the magnolia and qualities to carry forth on your journeys.
