I heard something many years ago that I wished I had known when my kids were young. Instead of regretting what I didn’t know earlier, I started applying it to my life from that day forward. It’s something so simple, but amazingly powerful! I love simple.
The story went something like this. When a child is born, the first thing they hear you say to them every morning is, “You are happy. You are healthy. You are safe. You are loved. You are content. You always have a home with me. You are the most amazing baby in the whole world.” The last thing the baby hears at night before drifting off to sleep are those same words. Now the baby grows, learns how to speak, and you teach the child how to say it with you. Every morning when they wake up, and every night before they go to bed you say together “I am happy. I am healthy. I am safe. I am loved. I am content. I always have a home with my family. I am amazing.” The child grows and starts saying it on their own. They become a teenager, an adult, and this beautiful journey continues with starting and ending the day with beautiful affirmations. Soon they will make up on their own positive affirmations, changing and shifting as their lives change and shift. It becomes a daily habit just as brushing your teeth becomes a habit.
If it’s true that “what you say is what you are”, then I want to speak positive words about myself. That is what the story was all about, we become what we think, so why not think the best? What kind of world would we live in if we all felt good about ourselves? What would our self-esteem and self-worth be like if we had been born into these positive words? What would we contribute to the world because we believed we had gifts to share?
It’s funny how easy it is to put ourselves down with our own words. But, imagine if we had all been raised hearing something positive about ourselves every day. So this wasn’t the case in your life? Mine either, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start now. What would change in our lives right now, at whatever age we may be, to start and end our day saying something good to ourselves? What would change in the lives of our children if we started saying positive things to them? We’ll never know unless we try.
In love and in light and everything bright and beautiful,
Holly
