Tarot from Conscience (or the Traveling Moth)

A space for tarot reflection for the day, week, or moment it comes across your screen. Each of these is reworked intentionally for The Edge, from the egregore of GroupTarot’s Card of the Week, to center education, diversity, and intuition.

Welcome 2022!
A Lovers Year.

Two plus two plus two equals six. Six is The Lovers Card in the Major Arcana. It’s also a number of Venus/Aphrodite, and apparently tied to Gemini somehow… that was a new one I learned today from Spirit Oracle’s Thorne Davis.

Energy of all the different types of Love will be an overarching theme of this year. Eros, Philia, Ludus, Storge, Philautia – self love, I had to look that one up – Pragma, Mania, and Agápe.* I would add Compersion to this list but as it’s a newer word, it’s not in Greek. It is a feeling I know deeply for I feel HUGE amounts of Joy and Love from learning about and witnessing other’s Joy and Love.

Do you have words for specific types of love in your language or another language you know? Please share in the comments!

Today, my newest deck, a gift from The Edge – although not all the decks I use are! And my insights are all my own – wants to share the first Card of the Week for 2022.

Cirque du Tarot by Leeza Robertson (not to be confused with Cirque du Tarot by 78 Tarot Carnival) gives us
The Hermit.

Can we be fully alone with ourselves, comfortable in our own silence or talking outloud, confident in our ability to be solitary and keep our inner light buring, heart forward? Can we continue, even as many of us have had almost two years of solitude as the pandemic still rages on – although we have much better tools & medicine for care and health now than in 2020.

How do we look forward through the darkness illuminated only by our own soul, our own desires, wading through a sea of our own emotions?

Can we dive into philautia, self love? Looking closely at the background of this card, it both looks like the interior of a circus tent and raindrops.

Is it raining inside the tent? Inside ourselves? Inside our homes or work?

I love that the lantern our Hermit is holding is heart shaped. This card invites even more vulnerability than wearing your heart on your sleeve, but dares us to illuminate the darkness around us with our heart. With our inner light. With our vulnerable truth. Not being afraid nor drowning in emotions, but steadfastly wading through, continuing to the other side. Having enough light to see to take the next step. Then the next. Learning better and doing better. Showing pathways. Sharing safe crossings.

Crossings and crossroads were a theme of New Moon Group Tarot this past Sunday…

Feel and lead with your heart this year my friends.

Is it potentially scary and vulnerable?

Yes. It’s also what this card is inviting.

The choice is yours.
Kate.
