I really enjoy using “penultimate” whenever I can.

It’s one of my favorite words and can only be used so often due to its specificity.

Today being one of them, the penultimate Card of the Week from this NM visit. Soon, Conscience and I will be reunited.

It’s truly been a lovely visit.
From my parent’s anniversary, to Mystic Mabon, and lovely treks to Santa Fe for the contact improv, good food, good friends, resilient art – The Solacii by Tigre Mashaal-Lively was burned and rebuilt with meaningful textiles and money from the community, you can see pictures on my Instagram or theirs – and the Santa Fe Saturday makers market.

NM tarot deck creators, there weren’t any paper artists there last Saturday, fyi. 🙂

As we shift into Autumn – coming up on Thursday – Gah! I missed the chance to say the penultimate CotW before autumn, last week! – I’m feeling a call to invite some gentleness into our lives.

Transitions, even planned and expected ones, can have their challenges and stresses.

They also may have their joys and elation. Context is so important.

So today, I slide back to Gentle Creatures Wisdom deck by Arwen Lynch Poe and Dan May.

We are given…

…my heart going Noooooo!!!!!! as a computer glitch lost everything I wrote about this super sweet card,

Road Trip.

Mercury Retrograde affects us all, especially travel and communications, so before you set off on a grand adventure – whether it’s a day, evening, or weekend trip – you might want to get your ducks in a row. And take a breath to remember that there’s only so much we can control. Sometimes we’re in the driver’s seat, sometimes the passenger’s, sometime the navigator says “go that way!” only to be ignored by the driver.

Take a breath. It’ll be ok. It’s the journey not the destination.

Although sometimes it definitely *is* about the destination, thinking about a friend who is currently in Namibia… the culmination of a lot of planning, prep, and desire to treat herself for her birthday. Given the pictures and videos of cheetahs she’s been sending me, totally worth the work!

Our cream furred creature has a paw gently on the variegated brown furry shoulder of their wooden car’s driver. Friend bird is on the front, pointing the way.

No maps, just the impulse to drive, to travel through the desert seeing mountains, cactus, grasses, in excellent company – although your landscape may be very different.

I am personally tickled by this card, as I am about to head back to Portland – although I’ll be flying rather than driving – and my parents and I planned a day road trip to the other side of the Sandias before I head off.

Whether you want/need to be spontaneous – just get in the car, on the bus/train, and go – or if you want/need to plan, this card says, do it!

Go that place you’ve always wanted to go.

See that state or country or animal you’ve always wanted to experience. When I was in Australia, on my penultimate day, my hosts asked me if there was anything I’d like to do. Sheepishly, I said, “I know this is super touristy but I’ve always wanted to pet a koala.”

They took me to a lovely nature sanctuary and I got to pet a koala! It was the highlight of my visit! I still remember their soft, warm, detachment. And how much I really wanted to hold it, with the thick leather safety pad across my shoulder – their talons/nails are fierce weapons. Maybe another year – and volunteering at a sanctuary – I’ll be able to hold one.

Remember, you might have to actually share what you desire with someone else for it to come true.

Even if that someone is the desert, wind, or road.

Or me! Please tell me where you go! Or where you want to go in the comments! As y’all know, I adore travel.

Oh! And stay tuned. If what has held you up from booking a reading with me is scheduling, I’ll be offering a service that completely erases that stress.
