Over the Hump by Kate Mura of Group Tarot
A space for tarot reflection for the day, week, or moment it comes across your screen. Each of these is reworked intentionally for The Edge, from the egregore of GroupTarot’s Card of the Week, to center education, diversity, and intuition.

Good week readers!
There’s going to be some name changing happening here.
Why?
A light reason is, I like some fun, brevity, and word play. Given that Card for the Week generally lands Tues/Wed – hump day – it’s quite appropo.
A heavier reason is, I don’t know the future of Conscience (or the Traveling Moth). My expert mechanic is doing a lot of research. The cards tell me to be patient. The bus’s computer issue is far out of my novice diesel mechanical knowledge and is being handled by pros.
I feel disingenuous with my column’s current name, as I have done little writing from my sparkly purple Skoolie for a while now. If you want to follow this aspect of my life and work, check out my Patreon.
Consequently, welcome to,
Over the Hump!
I *love* this name.
I love the wordplay.
I also love that it keys into part of tarot’s superpower, helping us overcome hurdles. Helping us remember the finish line, or reframe our situation, or choose a different path.
So, with that, a card to help get us over this week’s hump is,
The Chariot inverted from Pride Tarot, illustrated by Callie French.
Given what happened at Club Q this weekend this card has an extra layer for my queer kin and trans family.
Regardless of the hate, road blocks, violence, you are still here.
You are beautiful.
You are powerful.
You deserve to be here taking up space, flying free with the wind in your hair.
When/if your chariot turns over, you get up, fix it, heal, and continue.
I love you. I see you. I am so f-ing proud of you continuing on.
For everyone, this card also says, the engines are revving, and we’re just waiting for the checkered flag to fall to release the clutch and GO!!! RIDE!!! RUN!!! FLY!!! BE FREE!!!
Or someone/something is holding you back – yes this absolutely includes transphobia, homophobia, heteronormativity, toxic masculinity, toxic positivity, capitalism, and/or the patriarchy. The cartoon where one person is wearing a tank top and running – getting nowhere – because someone else is holding the back of their shirt, comes to mind. So much energy is expended thinking they’re getting somewhere, when actually the only place they’re getting, is exhausted. Certain types of online interactions can also fall into this category.
However, there is no judgement on whether this is a helpful or hurtful action; it varies person to person, circumstance to circumstance.
Maybe there’s an impulse to jump in where your help isn’t actually needed, wanted, or desired, like White Knight Syndrome. Or maybe someone is actively keeping you from achieving your goals, including self sabotage.
I love that the card chosen is one that centers a trans individual and that the fabric awning is in the trans flag colors. Pink, blue, and white are central colors in the whole card.
Right side up, this card speaks to bringing divergent forces together towards a common goal/finish line. Bringing awareness to the beauty and magick of bringing healthy masculine and feminine energies (both of which reside in all bodies, transgender and cisgender) together towards a common goal; working together with vision.
As Marsha P. Johnson said,
“No pride for some of us without liberation for all of us.”
Let’s bring it together and cross the finish line for our collective liberation, and manifest those science fiction dreams of the b.e.s.t. world we want – and all deserve – to live in.

Recommended Reading – What Becomes You by Aaron Raz Link and Hilda Raz. This was one of the first books I read to understand a transgender experience. I had a partner who was transitioning at the time, and found out that a Dell’Arte colleague had written a book about his own transition. I love that it includes his experience, as well as his mother’s, both told in their own words. Find it locally, or you may use my Bookshop.
