Happy 2023 friends!

How did you celebrate? Did you celebrate?

On Jan 1, 2023, I watched the Sun glide across the Sky before being hidden by Mt. Tabor; yet Her light remained.

When I looked up after warm watering the newest tree in our grove, the Moon was giving her blessing and welcome; a day of sharing the skies.

No doubt y’all have been inundated with gratitude posts, 2022 retrospectives, 2023 intention and goal settings.

Have you taken a moment to give thanks yourself, rather than take in others? I invite you to do so now.

Give thanks for the breath coming in and out of your body.
Thanks for the ability to read or hear this article.
Thanks for access to wifi or data.
Thanks for the land underneath you.
Thanks to the air above you.
Thank your body for being a bridge and conduit between those two worlds. A kiss between Heaven and Earth.

I forget who said that originally, but I have loved the image from the moment I heard it; probably a decade or more ago! I adore thinking of our bodies being that magickal space between a Divine kiss…

I gave a lot of thought and listened to my decks keenly for today’s Card of the Week.

First, I thought to lump CotW in with my Omen Days observations. This is something I’m sharing over on my Patreon, after first learning about them from Caitlín Matthews, a highly regarded expert in the community.

I would love for you to join me on Patreon! Long time readers here will remember it focused on my bus, Conscience or the Traveling Moth. Given her current computer chip problems, that is taking a back burner until my mechanic and I can come up with a plan.

So, like here, I shifted and my Patreon now focuses on cartomancy, and the stage adaptation of Mary K. Greer’s book, Women of the Golden Dawn: Rebels and Priestesses Shareen Jacobs, Megan Murphy Ruckman, Logan (Ki) Ridenour-Starns, Mary K. Greer, and I are working on. Your pledges support this work and get you exclusive content, first access, extended classes, and more.

You may not know this, but I am not paid to write articles for The Edge. There is meaningful energetic exchange, gifted tarot and oracle decks, marketing and publicity, beautiful barter. One way you can help sustain this work is to become a Patron.

Back to deck choosing! Lumping CotW and Omen Days didn’t feel right, as today’s observations are for September 2023, and while everything is connected, this felt too out of time.

So I got quiet and receptive again.

It’s a beginning, so let’s use a deck of beginnings.

Of my collection, The Universal Waite-Smith is my beginning deck. She’s who I invested in 23 years ago to read for my first big event at Pheasant Run Resort outside of Chicago.

Illustrated by Pamela Coleman Smith, Pixie, back in 1908/1909, it was a new beginning for tarot, as she illustrated the pip cards, the Minor Arcana. Her – according to her letters, poorly compensated – art changed cartomancy and have literal or energetic effects on every tarot deck created since then.

She gives us,
King of Pentacles.

Of course this masculine energy is in all bodies, fueling all sex/gender combinations.

When I flipped the card initially, it could have been inverted, however definitely wanted to rotate.

Frequently, I find reversals to indicate tentativeness, lack of trust or conviction, which can be especially true for wealth and abundance.

Because we still live within some confines of capitalism, there are societal expectations around what wealth is, what abundance is, how it looks, how many zero’s are after many whole numbers in your bank account.

And yet, there are many measures of wealth and abundance, of success and security, that we each get to define for ourselves. Can you buy whatever you want at the grocery store without checking your bank account? Can you have a cocktail at any meal you eat out? Can you stay in bed all day? Take a long walk whenever you feel like it? Purchase more than two books at the bookstore? Buy your friends a meal? Share plants?

Most of us here have stopped “keeping up with the Jone’s” and instead are re-evaluating what healthy foundations are. How resources may be shared meaningfully, asking for what we need, giving sustainably, working to be in right relationship with the Earth and each other.

We are redefining masculinity, taking it out of toxic, homophobic tropes, and grounding it in permaculture philosophy. Working to understand our interdependence on each other. Feeling into different types of parenting, with healthy boundaries, trust, work, mutual respect.

Receiving the King of Pentacles indicates our needs are met.

No doubt, there are parts of our wants and desires that have yet to be met, but the needs, are covered. Some of our wants and desires may be met too.

If they’re not, please reach out. I would love to help connect you with services.

A rising tide raises all ships, is a common saying in the labor movement.

Our King or Royal of Pentacles says, feed the people and feel the land. No one works well when hungry or malnourished.

On that note, I’m going to follow suit with fellow creator, T. Thorn Coyle and share a link to Little Free Pantries. As we can literally help feed each other, and I have some food stuffs bought for my parents visit that I can happily pass on.

My needs are met.

Thank you for being part of my community and a vital part of my abundance. I am deeply grateful for you.

About the Creator – Mary K. Greer has done fantastic research on Pixie over the years. Have fun diving down a rabbit hole learning about Pamela Coleman Smith and more, here.
To Purchase – Check in with your local brick & mortar first. After that feel free to check out my Bookshop.
