Dear readers,

If any of you or your families were directly impacted by the devastating earthquake on the Turkey/Syrian border, you are welcome to share your story and direct aid links in the comments.

Whether we are conscious of how we are effected by the greater world or not, we are. Everything is energy, so everything is connected.

We may try to deny or stick our heads in the sand or say, that’s so far away, it doesn’t really effect me, but it does. Subliminally, energetically, we of every ethnobiography, are effected by the shooting of twenty-six-year-old Manuel Esteban Paez Terán, who went by “Tortuguita,” an Atlanta, GA forest defender, are effected by the volunteers in Turkey and Syria pulling people alive and deceased from the rubble.

You are effected by my uncle going into hospice. By his falling asleep in his favorite easy chair, hooked up to as much oxygen as his failing body will accept, holding the hand of my aunt, his wife of decades. The two of them sleeping, heads stooped towards each other, reclined to an angle where they can breathe a little easier.

I am effected by the death of your loved one, human or more than human. The goldfish flushed down the toilet, the parent buried, the sibling recomposed, the bird placed in a shoebox and placed in the backyard.

Direct, indirect, energy thrums and it’s an unknown miracle or choice, that put my configuration of atoms into a human form of mostly Polish and mixed European ancestry, rather than the organic futon I’m currently writing on. Same for you. Why do you think you’ve chosen to be here now?

Today, Lua Tarot by Maree Bento wants to share again.
King of Swords inverted.

King of Swords tarot card

Why are you doubting yourself? Your skills, your expertise, the years of training, experimentation and observation you’ve put in? The connections you’ve made due to diligence, listening, and mental acuity?

What fears and doubts stick you in one place, having you look in one direction only? Habit? Desire to keep up the status quo? Fear of what it could be like decentering yourself to shine a spotlight on those historically marginalized? Trepidation at letting go of earned and unearned power?

All of the wood engravings Maree Bento chose for this deck were carved in the 1800’s. I don’t know if this King (remember masculine energy is in all bodies, all sex/gender combinations) was a real life person, or someone from the carver’s imagination. Either way, now they exist for us. The carver’s imagination literally manifested something tangible.

Maybe you’ll never know how your ideas create something tangible. Maybe you will.

Either way, one of my first yoga teachers, Gabriel Halpern’s, words are a way to get unstuck:

Change your thoughts, change your words;
change your words, change your actions;
change your actions, change the world.
But it all begins with your thoughts.

If you’re not thinking about yourself as the Royal that you are, why would anyone else? If you’re not being the change you want to see in the world, how can anyone else emulate you?

If you don’t trust your years and years of experience, why should anyone else?

Interestingly, the king’s right arm seems to be a part of the mountain behind them; a very grounded place for the King of Swords, swords being the suit of Air, sylphs, breath.

All in all, this king is surprisingly rooted…

This is speaking of two things, let your ideas become grounded. Take them and do something with them, even if it’s giving them away to someone else to play with. And if you’re feeling stuck, how are your surroundings feeding into that energy? Can you change your physical location to help your mental health?

And as T. Thorn Coyle loves to remind us,

Keep Breathing.

The direct aid link to assist Turkey is a recommendation from Thorn, whom I trust implicitly with such matters.
