Card of the Week – March 8, 2023

Over the Hump by Kate Mura of Group Tarot

A space for tarot reflection for the day, week, or moment it comes across your screen. Each of these is reworked intentionally for The Edge, from the egregore of Group Tarot’s Card of the Week, to center education, diversity, and intuition.

Parents, orphans, and everyone in between, this one’s for you.

The last week, I’ve had to take my own medicine and it’s not making me happy.

One upside to getting sick meant I would be safe to venture into the world – masked – to see closing night of Mikki Gillette’s My Perfectly Valid Objections, closing performance.

As my early Michigan travel meant all the shows I was going to see that week – Ronald Regan Murdered My Mentors, My Perfectly Valid Objections, Welcome to the Arroyo’s, Young Americans – were put on hold, or missed entirely, I was thrilled to see I could make Sunday’s closing!

For those of you new to me, when I am not reading tarot or traveling, I am probably in a theatre. There’s a whole other rabbit hole of my work to fall down, if you’re so inclined.

My Perfectly Valid Objections was sold out, but Mikki got me first on the waiting list, and if there’s anything I know from decades in theatre, that’s a shoe in for a seat – especially closing performance when they want to pack in as many as possible.

Theatre may be the original FOMO.

I showered, rested, had a snack, put clothes on for the first time in days, and my energy tanked.

I took off the leisurely, short walk to the bus stop, instead imagining a ride share. My body still said “no.”

Now, I deeply contemplated muscling through anyway – I could. I’ve felt worse and worked, rather than sitting in a favorite coffee shop enjoying friends & colleagues work. Social conditioning to work through the pain runs deep!

As much as I want to support artists, my friends, trans stories told by trans voices, I also want to live my values of prioritizing health & safety.

Am I out of the contagious window? Yes, especially when masked as I would have been.

Would my low energy have fed the health of the whole?

Did I feel my energy would revitalize with a little walk and fresh air?

So, I made my 2000th cup of tea, and got back into bed.

Now, those of you who have been here for a while know sometimes I choose Card of the Week’s deck intentionally. Sometimes, I let the deck choose.

Today, there is no doubt I need to bring some gentleness into my life, and I trust it will benefit yours as well, because Gentle Creatures Wisdom Deck is just brilliant. And because it can be SO CHALLENGING to take our own medicine, even when we know it’s for the best. Gentle Creatures Wisdom Deck is at your disposal during a one on one sessions with me.

We are given,

nurture tarot card of the week

What? Not Road Trip? heheheh…

The first piece jumping from this card is how gently our creature is holding all the blue, white, and silver swirling strands so gently in their hands.

Their focus is fully down, looking at their hands and the energies they’re holding.

It’s also interesting to note that the rest of our creature’s body is barely there. The deep midnight blue of the background is more solid than the creature’s body. It’s like they are simultaneously nurturing themselves and being gently held by an outside creature.

Take the help you need this week, friends.

Hold things – including yourself – lightly with space to breathe and move.

I also keep getting belly energy wafting from this card, which seems odd, as the proportions are somewhat off for that, but that’s what I’m receiving, so that’s what I’m sharing.

Arwen writes,
“They know the most valuable thing in their lives is themselves. So the energy reflected here is the marvelous act of caring for ourselves as if we were truly marvelous. For we are truly marvelous.”

You are marvelous.

Even when you are lying in bed feeling awful, you are marvelous. Maybe even more marvelous because you are taking the time your body, mind, and soul need to heal. Which in these days of late stage capitalism is a radical act.

Remember your marvelousness this week! See it in yourself, see it in others, nurture it in yourself, nurture it in others, and I’ll see you back here next week.
