New Sagittarius Moon 2023

Many folks misunderstand Astrology. They think that there are some magic beams coming from some picture made out of stars having an effect on life here on Earth. That’s not how it works. Astrology is more like a tree than a star beam. The tree needs to be strong and resilient in winter. The tree grows and blooms in spring. The tree flourishes in summer, and drops its seeds and leaves in autumn. Just like us. That’s where astrology gets its power; from the reflections, motivating operatives, imperatives, and demands of the seasons. That’s all. Very simple.

A New Moon is the beginning of the cycle, the way the Winter Solstice is the beginning of the Astrological year. At these times of beginnings, we set an intention for what we want to begin and how we’d love to happily see that intention manifest! Each New Moon is like a little New Year. Each New Year we set our “New Year’s resolutions.” With each New Moon, we get to set a new intention resonant with each of the 12 seasons they may find themselves in.

Each new lunation, we set a new intention, hopefully in harmony with the reflections, motivating operatives, imperatives, and demands of the season reflecting that New Moon. So when we choose an intention and act accordingly with the astrological suggestions, we are actually acting in harmony and rhythm with Nature and her seasons. That’s astrology.

And so now we come to it, the last New Moon of the year in the last season of the year, our New Sagittarius Moon. It is here in this last season, where we look back over the previous 11 seasons and do what we can to integrate whatever wisdom we can extract from whatever experiences life has given us.

We go back to January and consider our original intention for this past year. How have we done? Have we done good work? Have we maintained alignment, or not? We consider February when we had to innovate and diversify in the still frigid temperatures. We go back to March where we opened up to the possibilities. In April, we may have taken action on whatever had been brewing all winter. In May we gathered and solidified our resources because of all the activity we knew we would experience in June.

In July, we were able to heal a little bit and then in August maybe things got a little adventurous… or dramatic. In September, we had to gather our nuts for the winter and in October we tried to find peace amidst war. In November, we had to emotionally integrate this life thing as we looked eye to eye at our mortality. And now here we are; seemingly balanced between past and future.

With this New Moon, let’s set an intention of synthesizing everything we’ve experienced this year into some nuggets or pearls of wisdom; an intention of understanding and comprehension, an intention of synthesis and integration, and something that can help us find and fuel a deep and solid mission and purpose for our existence amidst the Chaos and the Mystery.

What does it all mean for you? How can that meaning be turned into a wood pile which keeps us warm all winter? How can we take what we have learned and use it to motivate us to our “next level of being?” What shall we, then, DO, or, whom shall we become?

This is our task; that no matter what has occurred, we choose to see the light in these darkening days, find the wisdom in all, and remember that it all comes down to one great, cosmic joke; ultimately, we have no idea what anything is, where it came from, where it’s going, who we humans are, why we are, and what it’s all about! We make it up as we go. But we can make it into anything we can imagine. So… what shall we imagine? Imagine well. It forms the seed which germinates next year.
