I do astrology a little differently. It’ll all be found in my book coming out next spring! I go from the bottom up. Astrology rises from the Earth and connects with the sky. It doesn’t rain from the sky upon us and the Earth, at least not completely. The seasons and cycles and rhythms of the Earth percolate up into us and we embody them.
From that, we observe and project meaning onto these cycles and patterns and seasons. Meaning percolates up from the seasons to lunar cycles, to the planetary archetypes, to our holidays, our mythology, our stories, our psychology, our emotions, and our Soul. In my book, every astrological symbol, and every human experience is mirrored in the natural cycles of this planet. We are, of course, human animals. We are of this Earth.
One of the most necessary parts of the growth cycle in Nature is what we may be feeling right now – the composting process. The dead zinnias go back to the soil or into the bin. There’s some sadness there. Maybe we relished them prior to their freeze. But into the bin they go. There may be some old decaying stuff already there. We add some water and stir it with air. We let the worms have their way.
The old stuff is digested, and by next spring it will be nutrient rich fertilizer for next year’s flowers! This part of the growth cycle in Nature is that of digesting into understanding on a psychological and emotional level what our life experience has been since Winter Solstice ‘23. It’s huge. We have experienced so much, and we have felt so much, individually and collectively. At this time there is a ripening to the intensity of life. We are all on some level confronting our mortality and are compelled to make peace with it.
This New Scorpio Moon asks us to engage consciously with our own internal composting process. This means we become aware of everything in our being that has served its purpose, come to its end, or is otherwise ready for a transformational leap into its next incarnation. We confront our fears, reclaim our courage, and strengthen ourselves for winter’s deep freeze. We acknowledge the impending winter and make peace with this necessary part of the process.
We imagine what psychological preparedness for the darkening days and a healthy emotional integration of our years’ experience looks like. (Call the friend, therapist, or Astrologer if needed!) Amidst the intensity of life experience, what are we truly grateful for? Maybe that’s water. Maybe that’s shelter. Maybe that’s love. Oxygen is sacred. Build on that gratitude for life. Let every breath become sacred.
How well we work this compost, how much consciousness and love we can offer to the dark places, how sacred we can make life, helps to nourish what we grow next year. Focus on what is worth it, let go of the superfluous, find the power in the present, and all will be well.
