The Many Functional Benefits of Using Magnesium

functional benefits of magnesium supplements

Magnesium is such a critical mineral to our everyday well-being. Did you know it is responsible for over 300 enzyme reactions in the body? Magnesium helps with the proper functioning of brain cell communication, muscles, nerves, helps regulate blood pressure and helps support the immune system. But only some people mention how vital magnesium is for the brain. Around 65% of adults in the United States are deficient in magnesium in their diets.

Not all magnesium is equal. There are many magnesium types, including magnesium citrate, magnesium oxide, magnesium aspartate, magnesium chloride, magnesium lactate, magnesium malate, magnesium taurate, magnesium glycinate, magnesium orotate, magnesium sulphate, and magnesium L-Threonate. Magnesium citrate is a good start if you want general, whole-body health and to maintain optimal magnesium levels. Magnesium citrate is most beneficial for people suffering from constipation, while the glycinate form is more beneficial for anxiety, insomnia, chronic stress, and inflammatory conditions. Early testing shows that Magnesium L-threonate improves memory and cognitive functions more than other available forms. Studies have suggested that a magnesium deficiency can lead to cognitive problems.

Our biological age and the age of our brain vary a bit. In a study, the participants had an average physical age of 57.8, but the average cognitive function was 68.3 years. Participants that received the magnesium L-threonate decreased their brain age by nine years.

There have also been pilot studies done with adults with ADHD. The findings found that when supplementing with magnesium L-threonate, half of the study group showed clinical improvements.

I wish we lived in a world without supplementing to ensure our body gets the required amounts, but that isn’t true today. Only a balanced body functions free of dis-ease.
