Starcodes week of December 13-19, 2024
Let’s fill this Friday the 13th with love and candles, hot chocolate and sparkly lights of the season. Venus is in good aspect right now, reaching towards a trine with Jupiter, and can warm our hearts in the face of a tough month with the cold winds of winter and wild politics. And every Friday the 13th needs extra love.
While our hearts can be warm, the pragmatic world may not be so easy right now as retrograde Mercury appears to hold still in preparation to turn direct on Sunday. With Mercury retrograde in movement-oriented Sagittarius, we can get so busy thinking about where we’re going – or where we’ve been – that we forget to watch where our feet land next. Simple transportation can be tricky, odd minor accidents just need extra attention to avoid.
Mars is also now retrograde in Leo, great for holiday traditions and can add spectacle to any snafu. The main role of this Mars is to challenge leaders and poke at people who misuse the leonine charismatic leadership. Layered with the recent comet of October – comets are associated with regime changes – we’ve seen the murder of a health care king, the leader of Syria deposed, impeachment in South Korea, and political reversal here in America.
The rest of us in less exalted seats just need to be careful around mechanical problems and to reevaluate our ambitions; do we need to reorganize our goals, or do we need to realign with them. What retrograde Mars in Leo doesn’t want us to do is puddle about aimlessly, because that can leave us depressed. Even minor achievable goals further.
These triggers play out against big patterns, Pluto is now at the degree opposite where it was at the beginning of World War 2, asking us to look at the bigger power dynamics in the world and to find good and responsible uses of empowerment throughout the next couple of years. We are in for a ride, so let’s pace ourselves, keep our spirits up, and stay awake.
Back to this weekend, Friday and Saturday could be the peak of the holiday glitter, a great time to share community events and sing carols under a under a talkative waxing Gemini Moon glowing in the crystalline night skies, which conjuncts expansive Jupiter on Saturday and hits full Moon early Sunday morning. Sleep may be hard to come by our minds are active but maybe not going anywhere in particular as Mercury stations to turn direct on Sunday.
Early next week brings a self-protective, domestic Cancer Moon, a good time to get packages in the mail and catch up as Mercury slowly moves forward. The Moon enters Leo late on Tuesday and encourages festivities, a good time to see lights, check in with one another, and be aware of the dramatic world play. Foggy thinking and minor confusion continue through Wednesday while the Sun squares Neptune, though this same fog can add that extra magic to holiday preparation.
Watch out for seasonal depression as that Sun square to Neptune and stationary Mercury can leave us in a puddle or spinning our wheels. It can be good therapy to just make a list and do it rather than let our minds ruminate on the world’s woes.

Friday, December 13: Communicate in the moment, but speak with the heart. Watch where the mind goes, don’t perseverate on a problem. The past and future may feel foggy, future plans made now will need to be changed, but the present moment can shimmer with magic as stationary Mercury sextiles Venus this afternoon under a nervy, verbal Gemini Moon. Watch for communication glitches early evening as then share a sociable night as the Moon trines Venus in air signs. Music furthers.

Saturday, December 14: Early morning can bring aches and concerns as the Moon squares Saturn, but that quickly clears up. We can spin our wheels today while Mercury appears to hold still as that nervy active, potentially anxious, sociable Gemini Moon, almost full, conjuncts Jupiter midday. Enjoy connecting rather than try to solve problems. That Moon encourages conversation- both an internal monologue and interactive dialogue, great for singing carols or decking halls late into the night.
Moon square Saturn 8:33 AM, Moon conjunct Jupiter 11:42 AM.
Sunday, December 15: Our thoughts can feel like a box of colored pencils dropped on the ground, beautiful bits but scattered everywhere and hard to gather in one place under this morning’s Gemini Moon, Full at 2:05 am MDT. Starting tomorrow it may all begin to make sense-but today let everything spin in place. Don’t push or hurry, enjoy the moment as the Moon enters Cancer by noontime and asks us to get back into our bodies and tend to our self-care in this busy season. People get defensive if we ask them to step outside of their comfort zone, so keep request spacious.
Moon opposed Sun 2:01 AM, Moon square Neptune 7:31 AM, Sun quincunx Uranus 7:43 AM, Moon enters Cancer 12:21 PM, Mercury station direct 1:56 PM.
Monday, December 16: Look for changes in direction or deal with potentially shocking new information unearthed as direct Mercury reveals what’s been recently hidden. Correct orders, confirm plans, and straighten out misunderstandings as the Moon trines competent Saturn. Get packages in the mail. Focus on getting things straightened out, and reconnecting with people clearing the air and reconnecting with people wherever there’s been some distance recently.

Tuesday, December 17: This morning, normalize patterns, check in with people. Catch up and get work done. Don’t push people if they’re in a sensitive, defensive mood, instead offer appreciation freely. If people need to discuss their concerns about the future, just be sympathetic; it’s not problem-solving time but it is important to share concerns. The heat turns up on some drama as the Moon enters Leo this afternoon. Tonight, help people make room within by hearing what weighs on their hears as the Moon opposes Pluto.
Moon sextile Uranus 6:01 AM, Moon trine Neptune 11:33 AM, Moon enters Leo 4:38 PM, Moon opposed Pluto 5:49 PM.
Wednesday, December 18: It could feel like Mercury is still retrograde while the Sun squares Neptune and seeps confusion, fogginess, emotionality, or just dilutes our motivation, but this Neptunian atmosphere can also help us appreciate seasonal magic. Step forwards optimistically, but one step at a time. Watch for strange weather, misunderstandings, or misplaced important items. Move slowly, thoughtfully, and enjoy the Christmas lights.
Moon opposed Mars 2:12 AM, Moon trine Mercury 5:14 AM, Sun square Neptune 7:28 AM, Moon opposed Venus 5:10 PM, Moon sextile Jupiter 7:40 PM.
Thursday, December 19: Yesterday’s fuzziness lingers, but we get a green light to make design decisions and move forward on our future plans. We may also become suddenly aware of work that needs to be done asap but can work with a burst of creative efficiency for the next few days. Venus trines Jupiter and can bring out our inner artist, designer, social worker, philanthropist, and spark new romance. Some people get possessive just when others love community, which can clash. Clarify intentions.
