Starcodes week of December 6-12, 2024

Let life be a mindful dance of attention and grace this week. Be extra careful wherever there’s a potential for accidents or serious misunderstandings. Mars, the planet of chi, action, anger, ambitions, and boundaries, turns retrograde on Friday while Mercury, arbiter of communications and transportation, is already retrograde.

Take it slow and easy, be kind and thoughtful. It furthers to review old plans, campaigns, and ambitions, old resentments, and opinions; decide what needs to be released and composted. Find strengths and skills from the past that now need to be revived for a more productive future.

Mars retrograde from December 6th through February 23rd of next year, it turns retrograde about every 26 months for a bit more than two months. Mars, like Mercury, is associated with movement and doesn’t like appearing to hold still at the beginning and end of its retrograde cycle, spinning its wheels and drilling down.

A retrograde cycle asks us to inventory and assess, pick up dropped pieces and catch up on work related to that planet. Review the lessons learned. We could have time to do so because the ordinary work of that planet just doesn’t go forward as planned. With Mars retrograde In Leo, it’s time to assess the role of the Mars/male ego (in both men and women) in our recent political process and watch it act out in the great global political dramas.

On a more personal note, the next few months call us to assess any backlog of anger and investigate how we use our willpower and ambition. Look to the houses where we have 0° Aquarius and Leo to see the compartments of our life where this may act out.

This Mars retrograde is going to be particularly interesting. We have all winter to work on our issues of anger, thwarted or achieved ambition, power plays, and hopefully come out in a good place. Mars opposed Pluto right before the election – from Cancer to Capricorn – Mars now retrogrades back and will oppose Pluto again on January 6th, this time in Aquarius versus Leo. Mars then retrogrades back into Cancer from early January to mid-April, then opposes Pluto for the third and last pass in April. We have work to do.

Back to this week; Friday is busy and potentially decisive, we can feel a heaviness about the future as Mercury square Saturn under a collaborative Aquarius Moon, but could also find new determination for the necessary challenges.

In an interesting romantic development, Venus leaves controlled Capricorn and enters friendly Aquarius on Friday and can help us love our community, which is great for holiday parties. Venus then conjuncts deep Pluto on Saturday and asks us to feel deeply. We could either love deeper- or wonder what’s missing and make the mistake of blaming our awareness of the void on our present relationships. Although it might be triggered by some event in the headlines – don’t confuse this more existential ache with present relationships. Let it heal the past and open our hearts with compassion.

Then let’s take a real weekend off with this wave of feelings under a sensitive Moon in Pisces. We may feel easily overwhelmed and just need to puddle and take care of ourselves for a few days before the winter solstice holidays kick into high gear. Keep expectations low and tend to the backlog.

An Aries Moon early next week gives us reactive motivation but can increase accidents if we aren’t paying attention. Remember to dance that dance with attention and grace. Mid-week a more pragmatic, grounded Taurus Moon can help us connect to the coming Solstice season.

Venus in Aquarius approaches an opposition to Mars on Thursday, both in sociable but stubborn fixed signs. If our communication goes off kilter we can dig in our heels and entrench unless we stay consciously curious about each other’s perspective. Watch this play out in the headlines and don’t play it at home. So instead of insisting on being right, let’s either take a break, or enquire how another person sees the situation, then ask them to be curious about us.

Friday, December 6: Expect luck and complications as the friendly Aquarius Moon trines Jupiter midday. Work decisions are on the front burner. We can feel a heaviness as Mercury squares Saturn, consequences of the past weigh in but we cannot change them, and consequences of the future are hard to see, so let’s stay in the present moment and make the best of it. Be extra patient though rush hour, think carefully when speaking and driving. Venus enters Aquarius tonight and it furthers to gather together with friends.

Moon trine Jupiter 2:52 AM, Mars retrogrades 4:32 PM, Moon square Uranus 5:01 PM, Mercury square Saturn 6:53 PM, Venus enters Aquarius 11:13 PM.

Saturday, December 7: Morning could bring a swamp of feelings or just call for a long, hot bath as the Moon enters sensitive Pisces while Venus conjuncts deep Pluto. Some sad memories could get triggered and insist we catch up with ourselves. Keep the agenda low, be kind, and recoup. Consider forgiving, opening a door, retelling an old story, and taking out a thorn as the Sun opposes Jupiter this afternoon. Reach out to people that need support through their journeys.

Moon enters Pisces 2:48 AM, Venus conjuncts Pluto 7:08 AM, Sun opposed Jupiter 1:57 PM, Neptune turns direct 4:42 PM, Moon square mercury 10:57 PM.

Sunday, December 8: Discuss dreams, we may wake up with a new understanding of our concerns or new solutions for ongoing work as the Moon conjuncts Saturn and squares Jupiter and the Sun. Don’t mistake fear for truth but do notice what’s been weighing on the mind. Spiritual practice furthers. The mood lightens tonight as the dreamy Pisces Moon sextiles Uranus.

Moon conjuncts Saturn 1:43 AM, Moon square Jupiter 6:55 AM, Moon square Sun 8:28 PM, Moon sextile Uranus 8:59 PM.

Monday, December 9: Look for fresh resistance or inspiration this morning as the Moon enters Aries, it can speed up the process but increase our accident-prone quality if we aren’t paying attention. Be physically active, but careful and creatively use restless impatience and frustration. Slow and steady is safer than skipping steps. Look for news on a proposal or idea instigated a while ago; a clear green or red light clarifies our path.

Moon conjuncts Neptune 1:44 AM, Moon enters Aries 6:37 AM, Moon sextile Pluto 7:21 AM, Moon sextile Venus 11:32 AM, Moon trine Mars 4:58 PM, Moon trine Mercury 10:18 PM.

Tuesday, December 10: An enthusiastic, outgoing Sun-Moon trine in fire signs can propel us where our train is on the tracks, help us reach out to strangers or step in new territory. But if we don’t have a clear goal or clear path, this fire-sign energy can make us antsy or run us into obstacles. It could ignite a fire. Let’s watch where we’re going. We also might feel the need to sidestep responsibilities for an important renewing spontaneous moment, particularly later in the day.

Moon sextile Jupiter 9:23 AM, Moon trine the Sun 3:13 PM.

Wednesday, December 11: The Moon enters earthy Taurus and urges us to do shopping therapy, to stretch, to eat and be embodied. But let’s examine carefully what we’re really hungry for. If we miss the fine print, what we buy may not be worth what we’ve paid. Consider spending holiday money where it will do the most good. Real challenges may require us to work hard in the name of compassion. If an argument starts tonight as the Moon squares Mars- back away and try again tomorrow.

Moon enters Taurus 8:54 AM, Moon square Pluto 9:42 AM, Moon square Venus 6:00 PM, Moon square Mars 6:49 PM.

Thursday, December 12: Venus and Mars oppose and bring a cheerful stubbornness which can intensify into a real clash of needs if we don’t see the humor or forget to take turns. Don’t make it an either-or solution; look beyond a binary of opinions for a third position that incorporates all. A third position can honor both the community, and our need to shine. Watch romantic difficulties that can feel like there is no possible way to meet both needs at the same time; brainstorm with companions to find that third solution which works for both.

Venus opposed Mars 3:45 AM, Moon sextile Saturn 6:55 AM.
