Did you know that your body doesn’t make vitamin C? It would help if you supplemented to get the proper amount of vitamin C. Studies have indicated that even if you eat a 100% organic diet, it is hard to get good nutrition from our foods due to the chemicals and mineral depletion in the soil.
Vitamin C is valuable because it is an antioxidant that helps protect our bodies from free radicals. Free radicals are molecules produced when your body breaks down food or when exposed to toxins such as tobacco smoke and radiation from the sun, X-rays, or other sources. Free radicals are involved in many diseases, including cancer, eye, and heart disease.
Vitamin C plays many roles in our bodies that you might not be aware of, such as body tissue development, repair, and growth. Vitamin C also helps the formation of collagen and iron absorption. Your body struggles without the proper amount of C. Your body wouldn’t have a properly functioning immune system, be able to heal wounds or maintain cartilage, bones, and teeth.
Sadly enough, approximately 39% of the US population is deficient in the daily recommended allowance of vitamin C.
Signs you may be low on Vitamin C, have a low intake of fruits and vegetables and feel tired, weak, and irritable. Severe deficiency, called scurvy, causes dry hair and skin, bruising, and dental problems.
Although no one vitamin can avoid serious health problems, an excellent strong foundation can do wonders. I like to compare it to building a house on sand or cement. Sand will give out quickly and only hold part of the foundation, whereas a house built on cement can handle the load for many years.
