Starcodes week of January 30 – February 6, 2025
We’re halfway through winter, Sunday marks the Celtic cross quarter day of Imbolc, time to take animal auguries, read seed catalogs, and get ready for the active growing season ahead. Nowadays we usually just consult the groundhog, but it is a great time to notice what our four-legged, many-legged, winged, and finned relatives have to say to us. Notice what our two-legged brethren do also and contemplate what it augurs for the next seven generations.
As the weekend begins, we may feel permeable, painfully aware of our worldly vulnerability, viscerally feeling that vulnerability in our fellow humans, as Venus conjuncts Neptune under a sensitive Pisces Moon. Avoid emergency rooms unless essential as germs fly about. But this permeability can also open a conduit for the power of the artist and for our sweetness between beloveds. Use this more delicate moment to tend relationships which may have been upstaged by world events this week.
The Moon shifts out of winter’s overwhelm and into action by Monday. The Moon enters feisty, brave Aries this weekend and Venus enters Aries on Tuesday bringing us a taste of the action coming this spring when the Sun enters Aries March 20 and Neptune enters Aries March 30. Neptune is slow, the last time it enters Aries was in 1861, the week the American Civil War began.
Many charts are floated about for America. I use the Sibley chart- 5:15 pm July 4, 1776, which I consider the chart of mythic America and her identity; it works powerfully for event transits and the general mood of the country. For the last few years, the country’s progressed Moon has been in Pisces, perceptive, reflective, internal, passive, compassionate, illusion, a dream. Early in December it entered Aries for the next 2.5 years- bringing a more action-oriented, unsubtle, direct, cultural mood. For more about the astrological patterns of this political time – see my talk on YouTube
We can see that USA progressed Moon in Aries, and the coming Neptune in Aries, in the heavy hand on the presidential tiller- willful, abrupt, simplistic. But we can also use that Aries bravery to stand the ground and refuse, revolt, and recreate. We can solve problems and build a healthier world; it’s up to us how we use it. Mars-ruled Aries adds strength and momentum, which is great when the train runs on the rails but can be destructive when momentum builds off the rails. As we get a taste of spring’s Aries work this week, both at home and in the headlines, let’s contemplate how to drive that train.

Friday, January 31: We can feel flooded, but let’s not get overwhelmed even as complications seep in from many sides. Let the feelings flow as the sensitivity-inducing Pisces Moon squares Jupiter but deal with one thing at a time to stay grounded. If needed, safely disconnect and wander in gentler pastures to refill the soul’s reserves, then re-engage. Tonight, the mood can feel heavy, thoughtful, or just tired after a long week as the Moon conjuncts Saturn. Keep interpersonal expectations low, be gentle with one another, and rest up.
Moon square Jupiter 10:52 AM, Moon conjunct Saturn 9:09 PM.
Saturday, February 1: Drift this morning, that Piscean sense of overwhelm is still with us as Venus, Jupiter, the Moon, and the north node-conjunct in Pisces. We can be painfully aware of the woes of the world and the complexity of the situation. Drift into creative process, use the Piscean imagination, spirituality, empathy to connect to source and hope. Seeds are being planted for the spring but are still way below the ground. This isn’t time for individual action, it’s time for self-care, for connection, and for the artist as rebel. Energy builds up tonight as the Moon enters active Aries.
Moon trine Mars 2:01 AM, Moon sextile Uranus 6:53 AM, Venus conjunct Neptune 9:33 AM, Moon conjunct Neptune 2:48 PM, Moon conjunct Venus 3:06 PM, Moon enters Aries 6:09 PM, Moon sextile Pluto 9:39 PM.
Sunday, February 2: Take the animal auguries on this Groundhog Day, notice what the animals are doing and ponder what they could be symbolically telling us about the future. That Aries Moon can make us particularly willful, spontaneous, twitchy, and rebellious if we run into delays or difficult people but also light a candle in the dark. Let’s not take impatience out on each other but instead rail together about the world’s condition and find something constructive to do to make our world better on any scale we can.
Moon sextile Mercury 9:35 AM, Moon sextile Jupiter 1:03 PM, Moon sextiles Sun 6:23 PM.
Monday, February 3: Notice a fresh motivation, that Aries impatience and a square between Mars and Chiron can move furniture, impose tariffs, or rally in the streets. Or just rumble about what feels wrong and what we want to do about it. Speak up as Mercury trines Jupiter, listen to conversations and pronouncements; words can expand possibilities and open portals. Tonight, the mood settles and grows determination, physical comfort furthers as the Moon enters Taurus.
Moon square Mars 3:19 AM, Mercury trine Jupiter 2:51 PM, Mars square Chiron 7:43 PM, Moon enters Taurus 8:33 PM.
Tuesday, February 4: Look to economic news, personal finances, reallocation of resources. Do not make sudden-impulse buys and watch a tendency to over-indulge when anxious. Look at how resources can be adjusted for more stability as the Taurus Moon squares Pluto, Jupiter turns direct, and Venus enters Aries. Watch women speak up. Eat quality food versus quantity. Also hug – with permission – as tactile comfort can really help under this earthy Tarus Moon.
Moon squares Pluto12:12 AM, Venus enters Aries 12:56 AM, Jupiter turns direct 2:40 AM, Moon squares Mercury 7:05 PM.
Wednesday, February 5: We get hot under the collar easily, may want to refuse to cooperate on general principles, but can also love quickly with emotional Venus now in Aries and sextile Pluto. Be direct, assertive without aggression, thoughtfully spontaneous, and be careful what arguments get started, as they won’t end easily. Conversation buzzes, sleep can be elusive as the Moon enters mercurial Gemini tonight. Like giving a dog a bone, give the mind something positive to chew upon.
Moon square Sun 1:01 AM, Moon sextile Saturn 2:58 AM, Moon sextile Mars 5:16 AM, Moon opposes Uranus 12:11 PM, Moon sextile Neptune 8:29 PM, Moon enters Gemini 11:43 PM.
Thursday, February 6: Possibilities open, but don’t try anybody’s patience, it may be thin, and anxiety can nibble at the edges. Work in small chunks on plans, patterns, scaffolding as the Sun semi-sextiles Saturn. Express important concepts in sound bites, keep it brief and to the point. Our spirits can lift later, look for sparks of hope as the Gemini Moon conjuncts Jupiter- glowing together in the evening sky. Hear it whisper of future possibilities and open the heart.
Moon sextile Venus 2:16 AM, Moon sextile Pluto 3 33 AM, Sun semi-sextile Saturn 7:09 AM, Moon conjunct Jupiter 7:16 PM.
