Welcome February! Welcome Year of the Wood Snake!
It’s also Black History Month in the US/Turtle Island (which of course is also every day), the Lunar New Year, Valentines/Galentines Day, my mom’s birthday month, and ConVocation where I will be presenting two different workshops – “The Grand Emotions: How Emotions Affect Spellwork,” and “An Open Channel: How Actor Warm-Ups Improve Your Readings & Ritual” as well as sharing The Tarot Show. Join us! It’s a fantastic line-up this year.
I’m currently working on the book for The Theatre Oracle Deck, co-created with my I.A.T.S.E. union sister Dana West. Please follow our Instagram at thetheatreoracledeck
This year, I’m pulling a Theatre Oracle card for each month.
For February 2025 we are given, Chain Motor
Whereas last month we were given Coffee, something everyone has a relationship with whether we drink it, despise it, grow it, exploit it, roast it, compost it, are addicted to it, or sickened by a cup of joe, Chain Motor is a more obscure one for the general public.
I’m trying to think if they’re used in industries other than entertainment and construction… nothing is coming to mind for me, how about you? Let me know in the comments!
In this card, hanging from a thick metal beam on a large shackle, is an old, round, white, 1/2 ton chain motor that has its power cord wrapped around the right side. Its service tags show maintenance done in 2023 and repairs done in either 2022 or 2012, I cannot easily make out the writing on the repair tag attached to a chain link. Its pickle (that’s theatre slang for the controller that makes the chain go up and down, and consequently whatever heavy thing it’s lifting does the same) hangs down, and a stair unit is behind it all. Being a 1/2 ton motor, it can lift up to a 1000 lbs. safely, by itself. More, and it needs friends.
This February we’re asked to remember, we don’t have to do all the heavy lifting ourselves. There are tools out there, that already exist, to do tasks that would be really hard to do alone, or even with a group.
Use your tools.
Ask for help.
Someone else knows exactly where to go or what to do to help in an upcoming situation – or current situation. Sure, you may have to trek down to the basement with a friend or two to unshackle & carry the hoist to where it needs to go to lift the too-heavy-to-deal-with-alone load.
Maybe family will help. Maybe your mother or a nurturing figure in your life. (When I wrote this, my mom started being active in the bedroom next to where I was writing.)
February may require some heavy lifting, literally or metaphorically, physically, emotionally, spiritually, psychologically, logistically. Whatever comes up for you in Feb, you don’t have to handle it alone. There are tools – and people – out there ready to help. For example, some resources for supporting victims & rebuilding after the LA fires are being shared on my weekly mailing list.
Tarot is one of those helpful, you are not alone, tools and I love reading for The Edge community members. Scheduling link is here and below.
