What I wrote publicly:
Be ready to clean up, with: Mop
There’s a ton more I wrote over on Patreon and a short video of stagehands mopping which was a happy happenstance.
But really it distills into be ready to clean and swap/fuck gender norms. (Old white guys are frequently doing a great job mopping up.)
There was more on Patreon but I’ll start here first.
I did very little personal cleaning in March. I was working 50-60+ hr weeks on Hamilton, so my home time was resting and doing a lot of legs up the wall pose. However, I did delegate cleaning.
One of the things I give to my household is a monthly cleaning and in March this happened twice, as we hosted a party celebrating two dear friends who were back in town visiting. We all did some clean up before and after the party for sure, and were deeply grateful for the additional support.
Going back to all that I wrote…
There’s no shimmery quality to the light currently. I wonder if March might have some flat or matte times… Denser cloud cover maybe?
I definitely felt and was flat for chunks of March. Flat on my back tired. Dulled with fatigue, though still with joy as I do love what I do and the attention to detail I was thoroughly encouraged to employ! I was literally giddy. That part lines up more with April’s card, honestly.
Looking at March’s weather, there were clouds almost every day, many of which were dense, so that tracks.
Every worker is responsible for properly hanging up their mop to dry when they’re done with their lane of cleaning, and because a good team of workers work together in good flow, that huge stage is cleaned up fast.
In March, let’s remember we don’t have to clean up messes alone. Get – or delegate – a solid 2-6 person team. Make sure everyone knows how to do the job, how to move in concert with their other moppers.
Though I wasn’t mopping, this expression of teamwork is exactly how team Wardrobe cares for hundreds and hundreds of garments daily. Washing, pressing, mending. The volume of work, care, and maintenance done is MASSIVE and successful due to high level of skills & practice, clear verbal & non-verbal communication, staying in our lanes, & offering help at appropriate times. We all definitely worked in concert, and our day work crew was 7 locals, 3 tour, so those numbers are incredibly close!
Normally, I would step back to also reflect on a global scale, but honestly, March was hyper focused so I was barely aware of the greater geopolitics around, though there was definitely a lot to call my Reps about the atrocities happening in the US government due to cleaning up in harmful ways and the wrong places for the health & wellness of our collective majority. And feeling bad that like the hanging mop, I was hanging up, dripping dry, rather than being really active against fascism.
Looking back on your March, how does this card resonate for you?
