The Power of ‘Yes’: When to Embrace Opportunities with the Heart of a Warrior

This is a continuation of the article The Warrior’s Way: Tapping into Strength by Saying ‘No’ by Wendy Benning Swanson.

There’s a lot of talk these days about the importance of saying “no” – and for good reason. We’ve all said yes too many times to things that drained us, stretched us thin, or didn’t align with our truth. But what about the other side of the coin?

What about the moments when life invites us to say yes – and we hesitate?

That’s where the heart of a true warrior steps in.

Contrary to what many think, a warrior doesn’t just say no to what doesn’t serve – they also say yes to what does, even when it’s intimidating, uncertain, or uncomfortable. A warrior says yes to growth, yes to challenges, and yes to the deep inner call that says, “You’re ready. Step forward.”

the power of saying yes

Let’s be honest – most of us are more comfortable in the familiar, even when it’s no longer fulfilling. We crave safety. But growth rarely comes wrapped in comfort. It comes in invitations that stretch us:

  • The opportunity that scares you – but excites you.
  • The relationship that challenges you to open your heart wider.
  • The healing journey you’ve been avoiding but can’t stop thinking about.
  • The class, training, or conversation that awakens something deep inside.

These are the crossroads moments – the ones where your inner warrior whispers, “This might be hard, but it’s for your highest good.”

Saying yes from the heart of a warrior isn’t impulsive. It’s intentional. It’s rooted in clarity, purpose, and courage. It’s a different kind of strength – the strength to expand, to trust, and to grow.

I’ve had to say yes to things that terrified me – starting a business, becoming a healer, taking steps into the unknown after deep loss. Every yes felt risky. But each one shaped me, stretched me, and helped me become more of who I truly am. And I never would have gotten here if I let fear make all the decisions.

So how do you know when it’s time to say yes?

Ask yourself:

  • Is this a stretch, or is it a drain?
  • Does this align with who I’m becoming?
  • Am I saying no out of fear or out of truth?
  • If I were living from my inner warrior, what would I choose?

Saying yes to what challenges you – but also calls to your soul – is an act of radical empowerment. It says: “I trust myself. I believe in my resilience. I’m willing to grow.”

And that, my friend, is the path of a warrior.

So the next time life offers you something unexpected, brave, or wildly expansive…
Pause.
Take a breath.
And if it lights something within you – even if it scares you a little – consider saying:
Yes.

You were made for more than just surviving.
You were made to rise.
