Welcome September friends!
Global North folk, how was your summer? Are you harvesting what you expected? Ready for the Autumn?
Global South folk, how’s the growing Sun treating you? Know what you want to plant literally and metaphorically?
Looking back to September’s Oracle Card, which I pulled way back in early January, I am delighted, for it practically predicted me going back to grad school before I had even decided to audition!
As a reminder, I will not be booking readings through GroupTarot.com for the next two years. Do stay connected and get much more content and access as a Patron. Even on the free tier, though I hope you’ll invest more.
For September, The Theatre Oracle (release date TBD) gives us:
The Sound Room

One of my long term practices in life and cartomancy is noticing what sticks. Which is one of the wonderful byproducts of this 2025 series inspired by Caítlín Matthew’s Omen Days.
What came flooding back (obviously writing this before weaving in what I posted on Patreon) was deepening knowledge in an area of the theatre world. Remembering that even though I have been on the boards practicing and honing and doing for over 4 decades, there’s still more to learn. There are still parts of my industry I only have passing understanding of rather than true mastery.
Audio engineering is definitely one of those places.
Voice work and teaching is another, and here I go diving deeper into something I have basic understanding and lived experience with, to hone towards greater mastery and instruction.
The Sound Room is also where my sweetie lives as he’s a head of audio. He made his sound room his own. When it was being redone, he got to choose his favorite paint color, orange. There’s a hammock waiting to be released from its hook for a lunch break nap behind all this gear.
Consequently, September may be a month to get comfy in new to you rooms and situations – again, literally what I’ll be doing finding housing in Sidcup, England! How does this land for you???
In writing this, I’m realizing that there is SO MUCH about how all this equipment works, that I don’t know.
Sure, I can set up all of it with assistance, but this is gear I’ve literally never had to touch in 19 years of being a stagehand. Sound is not my specialty, and what I have done professionally has all been around setting up onstage gear – mics, monitors, cable. With some easy sound mixing. I think my max was four inputs? Two vocal mics and two instrument mics at Beloved?
September may be a time to learn something new in a field you’re already knowledgeable and skilled in. Yet you realize, here’s this area you could really dive into deeper. In theatre, there’s onstage & offstage skills. The performance artistry audiences come to see and all the pieces that happen in support of that show.
If you’re primarily front facing with your work, maybe this is the time to learn more about all the different support structures.
If you’re all about the support structures, maybe take a class or shadow someone who is doing the absolute opposite job in your company or field.
Maybe we find a way to make our work space as homey, comfortable, and rejuvenating as possible.
