The harvest is in. The leaves are falling. Winter is impending. We have all been through a lot, to put it mildly. Whether it has been personal or collective, there is plenty that has gone on over the last 10 months to have thrown us completely off balance. Here’s to taking it back!

I’d love to be able to sugarcoat things and simply wipe the brow and say, “Gee whiz, it’s been a doozy of a year!” But I do not prefer understatement. Life has been quite complex for many of us. The polarization between us and them, right and left, rich and poor, and every other contrast and conflict seems to be escalating. But it is true… We all need to calm down.

That’s easy to say. There’s a lot to process. There are no easy answers or easy solutions to any of the complexities that we are finding ourselves in on a global scale, let alone on a personal one. Psychologist Fritz Perls said that consciousness is curative. While that may be true, becoming aware of the problem is only the first step in solving it. We want answers. We want solutions. We want fixes and remedies.

But what if there aren’t any immediate fixes? What if there aren’t any remedies or pills that will make it all go away and bring everything back into equilibrium? What will we do then?

We will give thanks for this New Libra Moon, Tuesday morning at 7:24 AM central at the last degree and a half of Libra Season. There may not be any immediate fixes. There may not be any magic remedies or pills that will make the bad things go away. But we do have our breath. We can bring that into balance.

Then, after we breathe, we can come back into our bodies, and find the places that may be achy or tired and stretch them. We can become conscious of what is good in our life, and be incredibly grateful for wherever we are and whatever we have, since we have the privilege of existing!

With this New Moon, it is our prerogative to set an intention of finding healthy and sustainable ways to restore, manage, and maintain a sense of internal balance, equilibrium, and peace. No magic fixes, but having a moment of peace amidst the intensity is essential to our sanity. Here are some simple suggestions for some restorative peace….

Maybe it is as simple as breathing. Bringing our breath into balance is essential. Maybe we need physical activity or a hobby. Maybe we need to get out and socialize with friends or the forest. Some of us just need unabashed play. While for some, the best way to restore balance is through a healthy routine. Some of us need to ask for help and some of us need some deep Shamanic work. Some of us may find our balance by getting out of our routine or simply getting out of the house. Maybe if we contributed to our community or to those in suffering, we could have perspective on our own situation.

But, as we go into winter, it’s best to do so from a relatively balanced place. We must consider what we will need through the darkening days. We cannot enter the season of Scorpio, the evening of the 22nd, with fear. Enter from a place of love, and all will be well.
