Happy Full Moon!

Did you pull any silly pranks for April Fools?

A mug of wildcrafted by me nettle tea warms my hands in-between typing. In my black with white speckles “A Witch’s Place Is In The Resistance” metal mug, they warm almost too quickly!

I did not expect to get snow last weekend! And it’s still cold, though new green is peeking out everywhere amidst daffodils. Did you get snow?

Today, I’m going to a new to me deck, The William Blake Tarot of the Creative Imagination, by Ed Buryn.

This Illuminated third edition deck was a gift from the publisher, Redfeather, at NW Tarot Symposium last year to use and review.

I’ll be reviewing this deck on YouTube later this month, April 2023. I’m currently compiling my schedule there for the next 6 months. Stay tuned! Best way is click like, subscribe, and notify on YouTube.

William Blake Tarot, changes things up. Our suits are Painting (water), Science (air), Music (fire), Poetry (earth), and some of the Majors are renamed/imagined as well. These are definitely not the elemental correspondences I expected, so let’s see how they play!

We are given:
9 of Painting
Fruition

Success!

Even if your project isn’t fully finished, a piece of it is, or will be.

Remember to celebrate these middle steps too!

The messy first draft written.

The workshop performance, months or years before a world premiere opening night.

The conversation with besties about a hairbrained idea that might actually have some forward motion.

The mock-up completed.

Well done! Pat yourself on the back. Pat your team on the back. Do something to celebrate. Given how much Ed Buryn talks about luxury, great experiences, and orgasmic potential, maybe go somewhere you feel fancy. Or use the good plates, cloth napkins, and light a candle eating at home. Luxury looks different for each of us. Be fancy. Make the whole meal experience beautiful. You’re worth it.

My eye is also drawn to the embracing duo at the center of the flower floating on the water.

Hug your friends, family, lovers. Center them in your life. Prioritize time with them and touch.

I had to follow the book’s invitation for luxurious comfort and change clothes before continuing, and I feel so much better! It’s amazing how something so simple can have such a profound effect on our physical and mental well being. Don’t stay in clothes that are uncomfortable! Make a change because you deserve to feel good.

My eye also keeps going to the circles in the heavens. From a distance, I wasn’t sure what they were. Wheels? Floating windmills? A focus on renewable power seems odd for this card, but hey, I say what I see.

Upon closer examination, they’re angels or fae. Guardian spirits watching over our naked, kissing open eyed, embracing couple.

I’m not sure what the big fish coming to eat the little fish is about, nor why the little fish is literally swimming right into the open mouth while other fish look on quizzically. Nothing in the booklet speaks to this specifically.

For those of you reading this column for the first time or learning tarot, one of the best pieces of advice I was ever given, is always read the book to every new deck you receive. It’s incredibly valuable to know the creator’s point of view even if you intuit differently. It’s part of the reason I list links to the creators at the end of every column. I want you to continue researching. Form your own opinions and experiences. The more layers you have, the more layers and nuanced your readings become.

Back to the fish. For those of y’all in business, it could be a good time to sell your smaller company to a larger one, or for your larger company to look at ethical acquisitions, or maybe look to renewable energy sources. For union organizers, you may need more active allies.

For everyone, know the waters you’re in and be ready to pivot, lest you be swallowed up by a larger fish.

And maybe make some time to luxuriate in a bath.

About the Creator(s): Ed Buryn. I’m also including William Blake. Though he’s been dead hundreds of years, they’re still his paintings.

To Purchase this Deck: For all things, check out artist direct or your local brick and mortar first. Then my Bookshop is an option.

Recommended Reading: All this talk of luxurious comfort, it’s got to be Pleasure Activism by Adrienne Maree Brown. I have yet to read this one in full, but it’s on my list! The excerpts I’ve read are succulent and I cannot count the number of trusted friends and resources through whom it’s been recommended. Remember, I barter readings too, and the gift of books is definitely appreciated.

All the b.e.s.t.
