We like to think that relationship is about the other person. But that’s not the way holograms work! Everything that exists in this Universe is a projection or a reflection of something that occurs within or through us. The external world? That’s just a projection of our internal world. Relationships? They’re just a mirror for ourselves.

I know we’ve all heard that before, but it doesn’t change the fact that I have a complicated relationship with the telephone when it rings while I am in the bathtub. It doesn’t change the fact that the dude mowing his lawn happens to coincide with my personal quiet reflective time resulting in a perturbation in my peace. It doesn’t change the fact that my attachment style and your attachment style like to dance the jitterbug, and not in a fun way. So I’m a telephone, a lawnmower, and something called harsh names? The current administration, war in the Middle East, environmental destruction, and the Easter bunny of nightmares are all aspects of myself? Not a chance.
But they are. They are the results of fear, grief, and rage. Every single one of us experiences fear, sorrow, and anger in various forms and expressed in various ways. Anything in the external can be found as an archetypal expression within us. We might not want to admit that we have any tendencies even remotely close to those of the shadow elements in this world, but all of those shadows stem from fear, and we all experience that, at least, from time to time.
So when I talk relationships, a common keyword with the season of Libra, I’m not talking necessarily about the importance of diplomacy and kindness. I like to go significantly deeper and talk about the holographic Universe. WHY are we to express diplomacy and kindness?
Because we need to be it.
If the external is a projection of the internal then the answer is in treating ourselves exactly how we would like to be treated. The answer is in forgiving aspects of the world we would wish the world would forgive in us. The answer is in finding peace within if we are to have any chance of finding peace without. The answer in Libra is not in attempting to change the world until we successfully change ourselves. We can’t find peace in the external until we create peace in the internal. We cannot love another until we love ourselves.
With this New Moon, as the external rages in tumult, as ancient pains arise and fall and rise again, as the challenge and chaos and craziness seeps into every crevasse of our lives like cold winter winds up an untucked shirt, we must find an internal peace, an internal calm, and an internal ability to regulate our nervous system. What can we do to create that? Love ourselves impeccably.
All of the ancient stuff has arisen into our awareness. All of our shadows have arisen into the world. We change the world by changing ourselves. We find peace in the world by finding peace within. Set the intention to find that peace. Breathe, connect with Nature, and behold and engage what is beautiful and calming. Ride the waves of change with knees bent and body flexible and balanced. Be within what you’d like to see without, and all will be well.
