Starcodes: December 31 – January 6

Starcodes week of December 31, 2021 – January 6, 2022

Many people will be celebrating the end of 2021 more than the beginning of 2022. The last couple of years can bring a twitch at the thought of what’s coming down the road. This year has the potential to be different, a chance to begin to right the ship, but it’s up to us to shepherd that potential into being. On New Year’s Day the Sun forms a transforming trine to Uranus, the cosmic clutch, which adds urgency and helps us shift gears. It encourages change, but change can go in any direction. Let’s think carefully about what road we want to take in the year ahead.

2022 a year of gestation and release. It is not a year for flash and boom but for real reorganization. The year begins with Pluto in Capricorn, Uranus in Taurus, and Saturn halfway through its own traditional sign of Aquarius, and earthy line-up which prioritizes stabilizing systemic shifts rather than a quick change. Both in politics, voting systems, and our own life we need to look at the patterns, habits, thoughts and systems which form our infrastructure. It’s time to investigate assumptions, rebuild foundations of houses, review and renew our social contracts.

Pluto now spends its last full year in Capricorn before it enters Aquarius and births a fresh chapter. Planets often affect us more intensely and summarize their work just before they leave a sign, they offer us a chapter review. This year let’s explore how we can move from the decades of Pluto in Capricorn (approx.2008-2023) which leaned into the old ways and elders on a good day and challenged us with demagoguery and abuse of control and power on a bad day- into the upcoming decades of Pluto in Aquarius with its gift and challenge of collective power.

Another question that burns throughout this year concerns the nature of truth- political, personal, spiritual truth- as imaginative, illusion-provoking Neptune continues its delicious and problematic tour of its own sign Pisces from 5/2011- 1/2026. This transit is magnified this spring by a Jupiter – Neptune conjunction in April, resonating throughout the spring, which can both expand Neptune-related gifts, compassion, spiritual connection, artistic inspiration, an opening of intuition – as well as exacerbate ongoing Neptunian challenges – like alcoholism, collective fears, delusion, escapism, passivity, and flooding ecosystems. We need to stay grounded to use this Neptunian potential wisely. All year long it will be important to feed our soul and our imagination, to imagine a better future, but also rigorously question assumptions, check our facts, and add action to our dreams.

Back to this week: through New Year’s Eve and Day a peripatetic, sometimes mischievous, Sagittarius Moon encourages a break in routine, to get out of ourselves and go to howl at the moonlit mountains or stay inside and connect to the global community.

Mental Mercury enters farsighted Aquarius on Sunday under a determined and organized Capricorn new Moon. That Capricorn new Moon can leave us depressed or manipulative if we don’t set some goals for the new year but adds power behind those new goals when we create them.

We can kick in a new determination early in the week under the Sun, Moon, Venus, Pluto all in Capricorn lineup, though not only good people can feel this determination. Look for signs of both great new plans and difficult plots and machinations. By late Monday the Moon enters Aquarius and helps us reconnect with our teams and groups, though we may be prone to tripping over each other’s feelings at home because our attention is elsewhere.

Our focus returns to those close to us later in the week as a sensitive Pisces Moon and a sweet sextile between Venus and inspired Neptune encourages us to reconnect emotionally and engage our creative process even as we jump into action in the year ahead.

Friday, December 31: We may rail against restrictions as New Year’s Eve commences, want to travel, get out of Dodge and do something completely different. Notice impulses and rein in impatience midday as an impulsive Sagittarius Moon conjunct Mars and Mercury semi-squares Mars. Go wild and crazy—in a safe way- considering long-term consequences. Enjoy a spontaneous moment and watch a tendency to say outrageous things in the name of honesty; keep the mind and heart connected.

Saturday, January 1: Let go of 2021 and commit to a healthier 2022. Decide what to cut out, pare down, eliminate, then brainstorm possibilities ahead as the Sun trines change-inducing Uranus under a waning Sagittarius Moon. The Moon enters Capricorn towards the evening and the conversation grows more serious: we want substantial food and substantial answers.

Sunday, January 2: The new Moon in Capricorn at 11:33 AM MST is a perfect time to make plans and resolutions for the new year. Take yesterday’s ideas and figure out the first next steps, but don’t make the steps so big that they are just an excuse to be mad at oneself. Better to make the steps incremental and actually follow through. Determination abounds, so head in a good direction; manipulate one’s future, not one another. Mercury enters Aquarius and infuses the potential for hopeful farsightedness.

Mercury enters Aquarius 12:09 AM, Moon trine Uranus 9:19 AM, Moon conjunct the Sun 11:33 AM.

Monday, January 3: This morning deal with logistics; get oriented and organized this morning. Then reconnect with the team, get the band back together, as the Moon enters Aquarius and conjunct Mercury later in the day. Put mission impossible teams together to follow through on the weekend plans. Solve problems together. Some people’s ideas may be off the wall, but don’t rain on their parade; encourage bigger thinking and fresh ideas and let the logistics add that realistic edge.

Moon sextile Neptune 12:51 AM, Moon conjunct Venus 2:58 AM, Moon conjunct Pluto 9:20 AM, Moon enters Aquarius 3:43 PM, Moon conjunct Mercury 7:36 PM.

Tuesday, January 4: People take their ideas seriously; support rather than criticize, particularly during a serious if potentially grumpy spell towards noon as the Moon conjunct Saturn. The stars encourage us meet, plan, outreach, collaborate, but don’t expect much on the cuddly home front. Our eyes are on our farther horizon and can miss simple signals at home.

Wednesday, January 5: Continue to brainstorm possibilities as Venus sextiles dreamy Neptune this morning. Bring in a dash of whimsy where possible. Contemplate the next creative move or add art, compassion, and magic to the more concrete plans. People get more sensitive and less realistic as the Moon enters Pisces tonight and conjunct Jupiter. Gently look people in the eyes and notice their feelings, honor sensitivities.

Venus sextile Neptune 9:02 AM, Moon enters Pisces 5:16 PM, Moon conjunct Jupiter 7:56 PM.

Thursday, January 6: We can think we’re being realistic and still miss the mark as Mercury semi-squares Neptune and tweaks our imagination. Whether we’re feeling pessimistic or optimistic, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. If long-term concerns return, stay in the present and look for short-term localized resolutions for the moment.

Moon sextile Uranus 12:04 PM, Mercury semi-square Neptune 3:47 PM, Sun semi-square Jupiter 7:54 PM, Moon sextile Sun 10:40 PM, Moon square Mars 11:54 PM.
