We’re getting closer and closer to Midsummer in the Global North and Midwinter in the Global South. At these times in particular, I love to reconnect with the polar opposites. A natural reminder that it’s vital for life on this good Earth, our only home, to have respectfully opposed forces flowing in cycles. That no one, no where, anywhere is going through the exact same seasonal moments in the exact same way. When we’re hot, another place is – and should be – cold. The Sun literally cannot shine everywhere at once, all living beings need literal and metaphorical night.
Mmmm… when I pulled this card back in December, this was the day things shifted, so similarly we may have some shifts in June that come up from “know better do better” practice.
What happened was, I read an article Caitlín Matthews wrote on Omen Days: The Mystery of Time Standing Still
Longtime – and hopefully new as well! – readers know Caitlín is where I first learned about and was sparked to experiment with Omen Days.
Reading her missive made me realize how I am exploring this year is very much not in alignment with how these days are traditionally observed. Consequently, I do not want to further muddy the Breton tradition of Omen Days for anyone and am changed the name of what I’m doing to Oracle Days. This is something I do yearly on Patreon. Join us!
This year, it’s a more precise title anyway as I’m using Theatre Oracle Card deck. For June 2025 we are given,
Multitool
I love how this speaks to Omen/Oracle Days shift! These liminal days – every cultural calendar has to figure out what to do with the extra days that don’t divide up nicely – are multipurpose. Multicultural. Deserving respect and care. A time to pry stuff out of yourself, cut through, tighten down into place, saw off, snip.
In June, whether we use all of our tools, it’ll be smart to have them easily accessible and on-hand.
Our bodies can be like the compact & closed Gerber or Leatherman or generic multitool: full with pliers, wire strippers, knives, saw, bottle & can openers, scissors, screw drivers. Sometimes splaying all our tools out to see. Sometimes ready to use one specific tool. Sometimes all closed up and compact. Sometimes – like this picture – open and waiting like Pac-Man.
