Memorial Day weekend honors both the change of a season and the memory and stories of those who gave their lives for this democracy, which carries extra weight this year.
This weekend brings turning points, the end of one chapter and beginning of another one, as the Sun, now in adjustable Gemini, conjuncts Uranus (helping us change gears), and trines deepening Pluto (encouraging the search for meaning). We just need to choose carefully – rather than compulsively – what needs to end. Be specific.
While this Sun-Uranus conjunction is great for a weekend away, we can be tempted end chapters that do not need to end, to walk away from a relationship or situation rather than do the work, or to make major changes when small ones will do a better job. This energy can also manifest in a more lightweight capacity at the end of a semester. Venus squares Neptune at the same time and can make some relationships confusing, full of projections, so it is not a good time to make sudden relationship decisions and either jump in our out.
If we just try a new location, relationship, or job, we bring our problems with us. But if we’ve honestly done our personal homework, and it really is time for that big change, these aspects will support. It could also encourage a change of mind, a beginning of a shift on the bigger political map.
Let’s take that break over the weekend and contemplate what we want to invoke in this next chapter. Go on adventures, see things with fresh eyes, and re-engage next week.
This Memorial Day weekend begins under an outgoing Leo Moon, good for parties and other ways to let loose. Underneath is a lovely and emotionally supportive sextile – which hums all week – between Mars in grounded Taurus and Venus in deep-feeling if somewhat self-protective Cancer, a love of home and of loyalty, supportive for weddings and our chance to care for the people that have been there for us.
Over the weekend an improvement-oriented Virgo Moon calls us to do home chores and projects, clear the basement and clean the grill for a good barbecue. It also asked us to talk about how we can clear and clean the politics – while we’re talking about change and next phases. But it may be a nervy time, consider not choosing to argue, we’ll dig our feet in if pushed.
A Moon in sociable Libra early in the week can help us get on track and organize the new chapter, but we could have some real issues to deal with right away as Mars squares Pluto. This square can bring a wrestling match of wills, it can bring a more accident prone, muscular time which could bring military or strategic moves, a brush with life and death, epidemic scares which most of us will only deal with through the news but need to take to heart. The Moon heads into Scorpio late Wednesday which can bring a sulk in response to earlier arguments, or it can give us the concentration to solve problems and tackle any real issues with intelligence and focus.

Friday, May 22: For some, this will be a turning point, stepping out of one chapter and into a new adventure. Most of us will need a break from routine, a spontaneous moment, but can feel a bit fuzzy about how that unfolds as the Sun conjuncts electrifying Uranus in Gemini while Venus squares confusing Neptune. Expect honest mixed messages and make sure to hear what was intended before jumping. Honor the heart’s longing but do a feasibility study; instead of getting discouraged, incorporate a dose of reality midday as Mercury sextile Saturn, let it encourage better plans. Tonight, tell stories and socialize under the outgoing Leo Moon. Some might want to party hard, but a great Leo Moon event will be warmer, more charismatic, rather than wildly ego based.
Venus square Neptune 12:31 AM, Sun conjunct Uranus 8:26 AM, Mercury sextile Saturn 12:02 PM.
Saturday, May 23: The “To Do “list of household projects suddenly grows as the Moon enters industrious Virgo and trines Mars. Don’t make it all work, keep those chores collaborative and creative. Or explore together = we’ll rest better when active, accomplishing or learning. Turn nervous energy into productive activity rather than get just get cranky. Afternoon, the mood softens, great for picnics or gatherings; just remember that it’s easy to run around and be busy and forget to coordinate with one another. accidents increase when we’re buzzing rather than dancing. Great conversations, just watch the tendency to bond over critique, may be important to do, but see if you can find a way to bond over common goals.
Moon enters Virgo 12:56 AM, Moon square Uranus 3:45 AM, Moon squares the Sun 5:10 AM, Moon trine Mars 7:12 AM, Moon sextile Venus 11:01 AM.
Sunday, May 24: Make this a healing and renewing day; take the day off to putter, dream, and get near water if possible while the Sun sextiles Neptune and the Virgo Moon sextiles Jupiter. We need time out in other realms, but that can feel like a craving for escapist substances when really, we need a good book and a chance to daydream. Honor that desire to escape productively. If we feel we should be doing more, or notice our self-doubts nagging us, let them float away in the wind. There may be troubles to deal with next week, so refill the wells now to prepare. Take care of health, the garden’s health, personal health, the health of the family.
Moon square Mercury 4:05 AM, Moon sextile Jupiter 6:53 PM, Sun sextile Neptune 8:21 PM.
Monday, May 25: This can feel like the best of days and the worst of days. The mood can be pleasant on the surface, with some deeper sadness or frustrations underneath, we can use the positive to tackle the challenge rather than skate over the issues. We can use the sociable Libra Moon -trine both the Sun and Pluto- to connect and collaborate. The Pluto influence brings memories close of those who died in our military, and those who are risking their lives for good causes around the world. Use that collaboration to tackle the potential arguments, accidents, explosions, or just need to set clear boundaries while Mars squares Pluto. Engage safety first, be clear and hold good lines; don’t just get irritated, hold hands, and tackle problems together.
Moon enters Libra 8:33 AM MDT, Moon trine Uranus 11:45 AM, Moon opposed Neptune 4:05 PM, Moon trine Sun 5:42 PM, Moon trine Pluto 6:56 PM, Mars square Pluto 10:02 PM.
Tuesday, May 26: What is and is not fair and equitable will be a chief concern, from international politics to dog treats while the Sun trines deep Pluto. Let’s not just look at the other players but check in on our own attitudes and actions; fairness works in all directions. Listen more than talk. Our hearts warm when we feel others also care about the balance but expect confrontation or passive aggressive withdrawal where the situation feels unfair. Look for ways to take the conversation deeper, to look for purpose, meaning, and whether we are using our privilege, power, and understanding for the benefit of all sentient beings. Pluto doesn’t want superficial answers.
Moon square Venus 1:08 AM, Moon opposed Saturn 7:10 AM, Sun trine Pluto 9:52 AM.
Wednesday, May 27: This warm morning is good for simple errands, quick conversations, good gossip to catch up with the buzz. The energy wanders this afternoon; it’s hard to get anything done because we’ll be on a treasure hunt to remember what we’re doing. Take a moment to let thoughts wander. Our focus and mood sharpen towards dinnertime as the Moon enters pointed Scorpio. Contemplate the consequences of personal and global actions. The world grows more seriously, gives people room to hear themselves and let that calm the conversation.
Moon trine Mercury 12:10 AM MDT, Moon square Jupiter 5:31 AM, Moon enters Scorpio 6:52 PM.
Thursday, May 28: Our tails can twitch irascibly this morning as the Scorpio Moon squares Pluto and opposes Mars. Process news about ongoing conflicts, but don’t take on the tension. Don’t try anyone’s patience, instead find productive channels for frustrations; pile rocks, garden, get any tension out of the body. Or concentrate on proving a point, researching an important issue. The mood softens towards dinner as the Moon approaches a trine to Venus, we’re still running an active subconscious but with less of a sting and with a warmer heart.
Moon square Pluto 5:33 AM MDT, Moon opposed Mars 9 15 AM, Moon trine Venus 6:25 PM, Sun square Saturn 9:02 PM.
