Dolly Parton’s Hands: What Palmistry Reveals

Dolly Parton palm reading analysis

Dolly Parton wore gloves, to apparently cover a scar from a 2010 hand surgery. It would be an easy assumption to make that she was trying to hide something as an unconscious gesture by wearing gloves, but I don’t believe this to be the case because her hands speak an entirely different message.

1. What Dolly Parton’s Hand and Fingers Reveal
Dolly Parton had angular square palm and long chunky splaying out fingers, an Air hand. The palm widens at the top, where the fingers reach out in all directions. She had an exceptional angle of time on the back of her thumb, which should come as no surprise, almost all singers have this.

The width of her fingers displays a no-nonsense approach and a good ability to manage money and people. The way they sprout from her palms shows obstinance and I suspect she was somewhat blunt, confident, and tremendously stubborn. Once she set her mind on something, she was likely extremely difficult to persuade otherwise, a “her way or the highway” type of person.

Her thumb was very low set and opened at around 80 degrees, again showing a kind of openness, as well as likely being a very old soul and a humanitarian.

When a palm is wider at the top than at the base, it shows a person who wishes to create great change and empower others through strength of feeling. It also shows a greater capacity to feel, as the realms of the mind and particularly the emotions are greatly increased. When fingers display outwards in all directions, it’s quite naturally an unconscious gesture about our approach to the outside world, showing a kind of outgoingness and openness. Air hands are always eager to travel, explore new concepts and ideas. This, coupled with the ability to socialize and manage people, as well as utilize her own strength of emotions, reveals a complex mixture of powerful skills required to make it in a male dominated industry fraught with obstacles.

Though she was known for her beauty and glamour, Dolly Parton had what many would perceive as having very masculine qualities, being dominant, confident, independent, strong willed and tremendously resilient.

Three things combined, a long Mercury (little) finger, a strong and pronounced angle of time, and a long Jupiter (index) finger, are common among singers. Curiously, Dolly Parton didn’t have the latter. Although strong and well-developed in width, it was reduced in length, showing a lessened sense of self-worth. This common in high achievers and often increases the need to succeed and to compensate for low self-esteem, and it must have been particularly difficult for her to succeed in her early life, as she was likely to sell herself short and sadly probably didn’t believe she deserved much of the attention, reward and accolades she was given in life.

The ring she often wore on her right hand Jupiter finger is sometimes an unconscious, compensatory measure to gain or maintain power, again a way of combating her own feelings of low self-worth.

3. The Year Everything Changed
The life line can be seen pulling away from the head line at approximately age 25, showing the time in her life she became truly independent, when she carved her own destiny. The Sun line can also be seen pulling away from the fate line at the same time, showing how fame and a new life, everything, in fact, seemed to occur for her all at once. Though she achieved fame at age 21, at 25 her first no.1 secured her future.

It is rare to see a Sun line, sometimes called the success line in palmistry, begin so low down on the hand, so clearly marked. It is typically seen on the hands of those who are hugely successful, though I have also seen this on the hands of people who are extremely bright, optimistic, fun, joyful, and simply enjoy and live life to the fullest.

This creates a great, large and spacious triangle, formed from her Sun line, fate line and heart line, providing her with good health, intelligence, reasoning power, intuitive and mental awareness skills, as well as making her audacious and generous by disposition, creating high goals for herself and demonstrating active, constructive and thoughtful application of energy to achieve her aspirations.

4. Dolly’s Destiny, a Fateline at Work
A few years later, at 31, a significant ambition line can be seen rising from the life line. At this time she achieved a major pop crossover success. From this point onward, the life line can be seen to be incredibly defined, showing how busy, active, and probably overworked Dolly Parton was from the age of 30 right up to her late 40s.

At age 34 her fate line appears to explode with activity showing increased popularity and income. At this time in her life, she made her Hollywood acting debut in 9 to 5 topping the billboard with its theme song.

Her fate line is quite a dramatic display, a perfect example of someone working in the public eye. It rises from very low down on the lunar mount, curving and arching towards the Saturn mount. Its definition reveals a sense of purpose and power in working with an audience, the kind of fate line beginning always seen on the hands of those in creative industries.

Her life and head lines are separate from the outset, showing she was tremendously impatient, nonconformist and highly independent. But it also reveals that her life was isolated at first, until the age of 25, when tremendous ambitions were fulfilled and her life changed forever.

The heart line is one of the more curious lines in her hands, as there appears to be an overlap. This overlap appears, to me, as a kind of overwhelming heartbreak, with an impact beyond emotional, creating a physical impact as well.
She has a peculiar relationship line, stemming from her 20s, which appears not as a marriage but certainly carries all the hallmarks of marriage without the legality, fitting with what is publicly known of her nearly sixty-year marriage to Carl Dean, a private and unconventional union by any standard. This relationship appears to have inspired and influenced her success, both negatively and positively. It seems this person in her life was a mixed blessing, and she obviously loved them with everything she had.

6. The Lifeline Turn Inward, and the Final Chapter
At approximately age 45, there is a lifestyle change, her lifeline reveals it retracts and shows a more isolated lifestyle, and she begins to pull away from the public eye after a time of travel. It was around this time that she retained full publishing rights as Whitney Houston’s cover of “I will always Love you” became a global phenomenon. At age 76, on her fate line, a new chapter emerges, where she is far more able to do as she wishes with the rest of her life. At this time she was inducted into the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame. Her fateline can be seen swinging over to the Apollo Mount, securing her as a music icon forever. It’s a fitting final chapter for a hand so clearly shaped by independence from the very start.

Dolly Parton’s hands show exactly what the rest of her life already told us: someone who felt everything fully, worked harder than most people ever knew, and built something lasting out of it.

The sheer width of her hands shows her capacity and capability to understand and deal with people, as well as her own emotions. She was practical, loyal, and responded well to structure, order and routine. She knew her audience, and her audience knew her. Her hands provide an all-round impression of wisdom, a wise old sage, a shaman, a kind of magician who utilized rhythm to weave hypnotic magic from the heart.
