Food First | A Spring Cleansing for the Body

591

As spring arrives, I am always thinking about cleansing and preparing my body for the warmer upcoming months. It’s like a spring cleaning for your body!

Check out this smoothie recipe that I have created below to help you with your spring cleaning! Beets are loaded with immune-boosting vitamin C, fiber, and essential minerals like potassium (essential for healthy nerve and muscle function) and manganese (which is good for your bones, liver, kidneys and pancreas). Beets also contain the B vitamin folate, which many are deficient in. Beets are wonderful for detoxification, lowering blood pressure, reducing cancer risks and lowering inflammation in the body! The beet greens are excellent for your bones and your brain and ward off osteoporosis and Alzheimer’s!

If that’s not enough for you, then add in some: wild blueberries full of anti-oxidants to help push viruses out of your body; and dates, which are naturally anti-parasitic. Add in a little healthy fat-like coconut oil for your brain and you have a recipe for health! Oh, and it tastes great, as well!

This recipe was kid tested and husband approved!

A Date with Beets!
1 raw beet (golden or red) (wash, remove root hairs and any damaged areas, chop into blendable chunks)
Beet greens that were attached to the beet (usually about 7 or 8 leaves)
2 apples (washed and quartered)
1 cup frozen wild blueberries
5 small-medium sized dates (pitted)
1 tsp Coconut Oil
2-3 cups Water

Place all of the ingredients in the blender and blend until smooth and of desired consistency.
