“Always in motion, is the future; difficult to see.”
– Yoda
The irony is that I am an Astrologer – and I prefer to not be prophetic. I don’t know what’s going to happen. If I could predict the future, then I would be able to download the winning Powerball numbers or pick the winning stock and be quite comfortable in my villa on my Greek island collecting 20% interest. Nope.
Billions of individuals making thousands of choices based on their individual free-will create a chaotic and unpredictable system. Yet no matter how much we may try with our technology or intention, we cannot, and will not, alter the solstices and equinoxes. THOSE are predictable. Nature always cycles in a beautiful wheel of a year.
There is a hidden magic and mystery in our future to explore beyond which our sacred geometry and quantum physics has yet to even comprehend! We are here, some say, to anchor Heaven on Earth! Big dreams! In all of that, we are here right now. You are reading this in a physical body. You eat, you drink. You need shelter and heat. Summer is fading to autumn and surviving through the cold winter is the only future that our physical bodies actually need to be concerned about. We are human animals on an earthly plane with three dimensional realities and needs… and complexities.
In the whole cycle of the wheel of the year, we have places where there is creativity and magic, exploration and adventure, deep intimacy and yummy chocolate cake, but it is at this time in the wheel of the year, where our attention to MAINTAINING AND SUSTAINING the entire wheel must take precedence over any magical mystery tour, joyous dance with chocolate, or wondering about what a heavenly future dream may be. For there to BE a future, we must consider giving our full attention to the eternal present moment.

And in this moment, we are a body that needs maintenance! We have a harvest to bring in! There are realities to attend to! Think of the wheel of the year as… a wheel. Occasionally, it’s a good idea to make sure it’s in good working condition. The tire is inflated, the bearings are well greased, and it’s connected securely to the rest of the vehicle. Yes, your whole being, your whole life, your entire future and past are this wheel, this circle, subject to cycles and rhythm and requirements for maintenance and long-term sustainability.
It’s erroneous to fault ourselves for not being perfect. Bearings need grease. Tires need replacing. No judgment. No fault. No guilt. No shame in that. So, we turn our perspective to the maintenance. If we have some grand vision of the best of all possible worlds in our future, what things in our lives do we need to pay attention to right now to ensure our getting there?
We might have piles and lists. There may be 100 things we have yet to complete since we began them in spring. We may have planted a huge garden with a magnificent vision, only to have it turn into a weedy mess with zucchini the size of my thigh! In this case, it’s very easy to succumb to the shadows of guilt, shame, and the damnation of eternal imperfection! Unnecessary and obfuscating.
It is here, where our maintenance of the body in the present moment includes the health of our mind and our perspective. It’s very easy to look at how things can be “wrong”. But the whole purpose of our ability to see “what’s wrong” is so that we can act on that observation and apply deliberate effort to make things right! We may have to re-grease or re-pack the bearings in our vehicle. That takes a lot of work!
So with this New Virgo Moon, let’s set the intention of doing what we must do to show up for ourselves. We let go of emotional reactivity and understand that we are human and therefore, imperfect! We accept our humanness and effectively deal with the garden we have planted for ourselves. We can the beets, jar the salsa, dry the herbs, save the seed, harvest what abundance we can from the garden, share or trade, and store it for our proverbial winter. Then our tires change to snow tires! We have salsa for January! We strengthen our respiratory system! We master our moments, and every single season henceforth is eternally grateful for the work we do now. That same work makes every preceding season’s effort not in vain.
