Aquarius can be one of the signs hardest to define. The symbol is a water bearer—not the water itself, but the person creating a container for it and carrying it to the community. Another image for this fixed air sign can be a roomful of people sitting in a circle and sharing thoughts. Aquarius speaks of connections to the community, however we define that, and speaks of our philosophic container, rulebook, or working operating system.

Aquarius’s gift encourages us to have an authentic experience, come to a new understanding, and create a new vital philosophy based on real experience. An Aquarian challenge can be to start with our memorized rule book or philosophy and try to cram our experience into that plan and lose authenticity. This Friday Venus, symbolizing our emotions, joins Pluto, Mars, Mercury, and the Sun- all in Aquarius, so we need to come to terms with this Aquarian pattern and find ways to keep it real.

There is a reason we celebrate President’s Day this month. Many politicians, ministers, and social leaders were born with an Aquarius Sun, Moon, or Mercury and exemplify the ability to reach a roomful of people and lead action based on a philosophy or ideal, for better or worse, depending upon the authenticity and quality of that ideal. Abraham Lincoln had an Aquarius Sun, so did Franklin D Roosevelt, Ronald Reagan, and Sarah Palin. George Washington had his Mercury in Aquarius, Nixon his Moon in Aquarius.

A beautiful Ideal is something to work towards, but these philosophies can also give us a great excuse to engage in spiritual bypassing to ignore our shadow or unfinished work and justify our actions. Conversely, we can suffer over our suffering. A nationalistic mindset can justify depersonalizing, oppressing, and killing one group over another. This week as Mars and Venus conjunct Pluto we may get a glimpse of the great damage, and potentially great gifts, of these Aquarian patterns.

This Aquarian lineup can also point out where people take a spiritual or religious position yet act at great odds with that position. Killing people in the name of religion is a good example, so is a group who promotes family values yet denies the worth of families on our borders. It’s important to hold people accountable to their vision statement, but essential we check ourselves; are we walking our talk, and if not, what needs to change.

Aquarius is also farsighted, it helps us see the big picture, but we may have trouble seeing those nearby. As Venus enters Aquarius, we can feel compassion for all sentient beings but miss what’s happening close at home and need some emotional reading glasses to read our beloveds’ hearts.

It is important for the next few weeks that we keep it real. Let’s notice what we actually feel rather than what we think we should be feeling- and pay as close attention to those nearby as to those far away.

Also, stay grounded. With so many planets in air signs we can get lost in thoughts, become the absent-minded professors, and trip over our own feet. If our heads buzz, it will further get back into our bodies and walk on this earth.

The weekend begins particularly airy and unpredictable under a nervy Gemini Moon and as Mercury squares Uranus and Venus squares Pluto. We can explore some new ideas, deal with some shocking news, or find our minds winding up, thinking a billion different possibilities to avoid feeling some deep emotions. Those emotions might be lurking just under the surface, some story from the past or concern about the future can tug at us as Venus conjunct Pluto. In response, people can get controlling without admitting why, even to themselves. Take a deep breath and explore possibilities in the present moment.

Late Sunday the energy shifts out of our heads and more into our hearts as the Moon enters Cancer and the Sun enters Pisces, both sensitive water signs, though 4 planets remain in Aquarius. Early in the week we could feel a bit disoriented or just need to drift and let the subconscious process. The energy winds up again towards Wednesday and Thursday as Venus and Mars conjunct while the Moon enters outgoing Leo. Radical acts of love and compassion further.

starcodes week of February 16 through 22

Friday, February 16: Get practical things in place early under a pragmatic Taurus Moon. It can get windy- wordy and impractical- as Moon enters Gemini and Venus enters Aquarius midday; with six planets now in air signs, words and ideas may flow, but common sense can flow out the window. Notice a call for compassion this afternoon as the Moon trines Venus and Pluto, including compassion with oneself. Loneliness, awareness of loss can tug at the heart, while some mental tug-of-war can nudge us to shift our minds tonight as Mercury squares Uranus. Soothe nerves and make it a good shift. A change of scene furthers.

Moon sextile Neptune 5:55 AM, Moon square Sun 8:00 AM, Venus enters Aquarius 9:05 AM, Moon enters Gemini 12:39 PM, Moon trine Venus 1:01 PM, Moon trine Pluto 2:11 PM, Moon trine Mars 5:55 PM, Mercury square Uranus 8:52 PM.

Saturday, February 17: Morning can bring up a lot. Watch where the mind goes as that Mercury-Uranus square lingers; we can obsess over our discontent or brainstorm a different approach. Shallowness will not fly today, we need to honor life’s bittersweet beauty in the face of loss as Venus conjunct Pluto. Respect a longing for emotional depth that reflects our soul’s journey. Afternoon may leave us at loose ends, conversation is great but may not come to any conclusions unless we engage the heart.

Venus conjunct Pluto 1:48 AM, Moon square Saturn 3:56 AM.

Sunday, February 18: Talk a blue streak this morning, share at the coffee hour, call a relative, type a memo, write a letter to your representatives as the Gemini Moon trines Mercury and the Sun. Put everything on the table and process externally. Stop pushing people around dinner time, the mood grows more sensitive, introverted, possibly quieter, as the Moon enters Cancer and the Sun enters Pisces, both sensitive water signs.

Moon trine Mercury 4:21 AM, Moon square Neptune 1:27 PM, Moon trine Sun 8:20 PM, Moon enters Cancer 8:24 PM, Sun enters Pisces 9:13 PM.

Monday, February 19: Personal conversations will honestly improve our efficiency, we need to understand one another in order to work together smoothly. Responsibilities tap on our shoulder this morning as the Moon trines Saturn, but we may just need to let our emotions catch up with events before we jump in. Keep eyes open for an unusual opportunity or a chance to be generous midafternoon as the Moon sextile Jupiter.

Moon trine Saturn 1:02 PM, Moon sextile Jupiter 3 PM.

Tuesday, February 20: Some memory or unfinished conundrum, hints of the past, can haunt us, call for attention and healing, and could be seen as a training ground. Look for advice from people who’ve been through this before. Do the work and look for the lessons learned; store those away for future use as the Sun semi-squares Chiron under a sensitive Pisces moon.

Moon sextile Pluto Uranus 9:45 AM, Sun semi-square Chiron 4:10 PM, Moon trine Neptune 11:37 PM.

Wednesday, February 21: The Leo Moon brings out our extroverted side, but we can make dramatic mountains out of molehills as it opposes Pluto, Venus, and Mars in Aquarius. Our feelings can feel overblown and need to be expressed in interpretive dance. Any dramatic expression of our feelings can help us acknowledge what’s really going on, though the storyline and the size of those feelings may be out of proportion. Let’s listen deeply to one another as well as express our inner truths, but take it all with a grain of salt.

Moon enters Leo 6:40 AM, Moon opposed Pluto 8:37 AM, Moon opposed Venus 8:02 PM, Moon opposed Mars 8:12 PM.

Thursday, February 22: Reward good behavior, appreciate any positive step forward: we’ll want to know we’re appreciated and respond well to positive reinforcement. This could be the real Valentine’s Day; we’ll want to act on our emotions as Venus conjunct Mars under an expressive Leo Moon. That could go in many different directions besides flowers and chocolates, although those aren’t a bad idea, but we could see some people really acting out. If the heart feels full and doesn’t know where to go, take compassionate action, share the love in a positive Aquarian way.

Venus conjunct Mars 12:14 AM, Moon square Jupiter 2:39 AM, Moon square Uranus 9:18 PM.
