Nature’s Kindest Heart

eternity
can last for a single second
or a thousand centuries
it just depends on the nature of the
situation,
and i like those eternities
spent in nature’s knees;
for she can be as kind as some insist
she is cruel —
i remember standing, kneeling, and singing
in the creek with the sun singing over
one shoulder and rain over the other and yet
they both seemed to approve of
my presence;
the crows fluttered above the trees and sang
with me —
in nature i find the greatest, deepest peace i have known
she washes away all my angers and hurts
gives my heart a cleansing and renewing breath
remembers me both hope and joy
every time i forget who i am she reminds me that i am
stronger and more beautiful than i have ever known.
